I'm going to try the wall tommorrow if anyone wants to join me.  I'll be at the ramp setting up 0700 to 0730.  It's supposed to be fairly calm and warming up weather wise for the morning.  We will be having an incoming tide.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / ARW try 17?
« on: October 01, 2011, 05:56:03 PM »
I'm going to hit the wall one more time while we have good weather.  0700 at the launch, going to use popsicles, catch some of the outgoing - bottom of the tide - and some of the incoming back towards the launch.

Has anyone seen the article about (the hunt for lingzilla), it seems that someone by the name of Eric "Abking" Stockwell is pictured catching a ling.  Since I don't know how to load the connection - calkayakermag.com (summer 2010 edition) page 26

All cleaned up and deslimed.  (1) I would like to say thanks for being able to participate in one of NCKA's events.  (2) I would like to say it was nice meeting a whole bunch of great guys and gals.  (3) I definetly wants to say a big thanks to the sponsors who provided the great gifts.   (4) I definetly want to say thanks to our NCKA brother(s) who helped set this event up.  (5) I cannot forget to say thanks to the 14.2lb, 33.5in halibut who allowed me to catch him, thereby winning this first able to participate event.  frozen herring, cut off head to make smaller bait, wanted to just catch any hali, even if small, didn't quite work out that way.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / 6-5-10

I got lucky today, drifting along the second wall I was able to pick up a 30", 10lb halibut (frozen herring).  When we got into the main channel entrance, a friend of BRDOPRY was lucky to hook into a 48" leopard shark.  Since it was a female he let it go to procreate more leopards.  They were in a boat because he wanted to take along Rebel and his friend doesn't have a yak.  Almost forgot  -  ARW

Fishing Pics / Horned sculpin
« on: April 17, 2010, 09:24:30 PM »
I caught this sculpin from the beach in Timber Cove.  Never came across one like this with these large horns.  The fish itself was only about 10".  Anyone know what type it is?

Decided to hit the ARW today as the weather was very nice.  Outgoing tide, no wind, no waves.  Met up with Duane at the launch, was expecting to go out solo, but definetely better with another NCKA'r.  Drifted towards the bridge, on the far side of the main channel Duane picked up a halibut.  A short time later he picked up a striper.  I was feeling left out, but when we were repositioning for another drift I got my halibut.  I had it up close two times, both resulted in hard runs.  The third time though I was able to get my gaff into it.  Unfortunately that was it for us - another hard day at the office.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / No dino. but!
« on: March 27, 2010, 06:32:51 PM »
Went fishing for dino's with Baitnbeer and Brdopry out of Pittsburg.  No luck on the dino's, but I did get a striper.  Halibut rig, anchovie, bottom of the tide.  I kind of was trying for stripers while the others were going for dino's.  I guessed right.  Oh by the way my fish rag is now blooded.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Game Clips, Alameda source
« on: August 04, 2009, 03:30:31 PM »
I decided to check out the new dive shop in Alameda on Webster st (AAA Premier Scuba, 1517 Webster st).  I noticed that they carry game clips(19.95) and other equipment that might be needed for AB diving.  No hawg troughs though.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Timber Cove 4th
« on: July 05, 2009, 08:53:38 AM »
Went to Timber Cove and got lucky.  Started with a nice vermillion, then a nice small ling (26", 5.7#).  I can now say happy 4th.  Later I got another bite that felt like another small ling (let a 19" and 20" go) so I started to reel up, got about 15' and the fish then decided that the bottom was where it wanted to be.  Got it turned and slowly coming up.  Looked down and all I saw was a big mouth and teeth.  OH SH--!!!!!  Net??? or Gaff???  Net was bigger so grabbed that and slid it under the head and part of the body.  Lowered the rod tip and the fish obliged by slidding into the net, put my rod down quick and grabbed both sides of the net.  Good thing as the fish went crazy, hook fell out, I'm getting a soaking.  My son came over and applied the wacker several times to quiet the fish.  I started breathing again and trying to figure out what to do.  Hooked up the fish, laid it across my lap and took a measurement  (36", biggest fish on this yak.  Later on shore weighed it  18#, o lordy thats big).  Definety a big ling, now I can really celebrate.  After that all I got was a couple of gophers, let them go.  All of this took place in about 40 - 50 foot of water.  3 oz lead head with a 8" brown paddle tail (squid teaser on hook)

General Talk / Reading Material

Since I can't stay on this site all the time. I was wondering if there are any good magazines on yaking / fishing that would supplement this site.  Already read the Kayak Angler magazine.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / SWS - 5-9-09

Went south for the first time with son (brdopry) and friend.  Between the three of us - Me = 1 olive, 2 blues, 2 blacks, son = 2 blues, friend = 0.  None were photo worthy.  Threw back around 10.  Big factor was we were not skunked.  Early wind was fine, but kicked up later.  Mine were caught on anchovy chunks and Gulp worm.  Sons' were caught on squid.

This is my first post so give me a little leeway.  I was fishing with my son and his friend off of the second wall and got lucky.  23", 4.7lb halibut,  about 15 minutes later I lost another that was about 6 - 7" longer, DARN.  When we got back to the launch several other NCKA's were there so got to chat for a little bit.  Question -- was I the only one to get lucky and catch a halibut?  Before I forget, I used frozen herring.
