General Fishing Tips / POINT ARENA PIER
« on: May 28, 2012, 01:38:16 PM »
Any one have info on fishing point arena pier?  I will be taking my kayak and was wondering if I could launch from shore there and if there is any good fishing around the pier area.  I will be taking the wife and kids so they can fish off the pier and so will I if conditions are bad on the water for kayak (Just getting my feet wet trying to practice before albion and trinidad).  Any info on where to fish and what to use would be greatly appreciated.

« on: March 14, 2012, 05:30:06 PM »
Anyone ever use JB Weld to install transducer to inside of hull?  I know everyone talks about Goop and epoxy but I was wondering about JB Weld it dries hard and doesnt seem to get the air bubbles in it.  I dont know how hot it gets when it cures??

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: ELECTRIC BILGE PUMP
« on: March 13, 2012, 08:19:08 PM »
Thanks point well taken.  That is what is nice about this site is that straight ansewers are given.  Thought it would be pretty neat to have the electric pump put you are correct in that it is a safety device and why rely on electricity when the crap is hitting the fan the last thing you need is something not to work.  Thanks!!!

Ocean Kayaks / Re: trident 13 or 15?
« on: March 13, 2012, 06:40:20 PM »
With the weight thing being said the weight capacity of the T-13 is 475lbs.  I weight about 270 and dont have any problems with my T-13 handling.  It is a very stable boat and love the deck lay out on it plenty of room for everything.  Just my two cents worth.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / ELECTRIC BILGE PUMP
« on: March 13, 2012, 06:27:47 PM »
Has anyone used an electric Zodi camp shower water pump as a bilge pump.  I dont know what the GPM output is on the water pump but it runs on 4-D batteries and seems that it would be small and light weight.  Any input would be great.  Thanks.

Fish Talk / Re: Killer video of Lake Almanor rainbows
« on: March 11, 2012, 02:36:02 PM »
Hey Clayman are you local to the Almanor area?  I  live two blocks from the lake in Hamilton Branch.  Was on the lake last weekend seems like the rainbows are a little late this year maybe becasue  of the warmer than average temps?  Also have not seen the pond smelt in abundance?  Let me know if you are going out anytime soon.  Just got back from Basspro with my new FF and am trying to get it installed but would  be willling to take the morning sometime and get on the water.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / What type of carrier
« on: February 18, 2012, 10:22:35 AM »
Need help just got my girl home!!!  Beautiful heathly OK T-13.  I have a ladder rack on my F-150 but did not like how she rode home in it.  Want to either put a cradle (Kayak rests on its bottom) or a J-Style (Kayak rests on it side) carrier on the ladder rack.   Need help with which way it is better for her to ride on her bottom or her side??????

Thank you for the information.  Like I said I just want to be ready and dont want to wait until I get up there to find out I missed something important.  I have been to Shelter Cove before and if I remember right the West Marine and kayak supply store there closes early (haha).

Thanks Again

Safety First / Tournament Equipment
« on: February 05, 2012, 04:53:25 PM »
Originally put this question in the GS6 thread.  Realized I probably should have put it in here.  Anyway I would like to know what the mandatory safety equipment (And non safety) is for the tournaments.  I am getting  my gear together (purchased) and would like to be ready for GS6 but tax season is upon us and don't think I will be able to get the frills just what I will need to get started.   I already have the kayak, fishing gear and wetsuit.  What about fishfinder, GPS or is compass alright to begin with, radio??  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!!!!!

Eric I would like to  know what items of safety equipment and non safety equipment will be mandatory for the tournament?  I am new to all of this and am getting my gear put together and need to know what I need to be ready for GS6.  Thanks for the info.

Just booked a room at Shelter Cove (bringing wife and kids we all love the ocean).  I am new to this whole thing and am curious about how the teams are set up?  I have ocean fishing and ab diving experience but have never done any from a kayak.  I am really looking forward to it and think it will be a great way to start out by having everyone around with all the experience and  knowledge.  I am still getting my OK T-13 set up and will have it ready by May.  Any tips or pointers before would be greatly appreciated.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / VHF Radio Wattage
« on: January 14, 2012, 08:12:26 AM »
Just starting to get my gear purchased and have a question about wattage strength for the VHF handhelds and what is  recommended?  Obviously they all come in 1 watt but some go to 3 watts and some to 5 watts.  What is the recommended peak wattage people are using?????
