Introductions / Re introduction.
« on: April 05, 2017, 07:15:38 PM »
I haven't been active in 2 years or so, looking forward to.seeing some familiar faces and new ones too. Oh yeah, slay some fish too. I have ever relocated and now live in eureka, at least for a while. I haven't even got my yak up here yet but already finding a whole new fishing experience that will take some getting used to. Have had some good ocean time but being from Sacramento, most fishing I have done is freshwater. I have been having a lot of fun catching perch inside the bay off of rockwalls and jetties. Pretty much anywhere I'm able to get too. I soon hope to try and tackle surf fishing. Some pretty big water here. Logging in to connect now because I plan on having my kayak here by Monday. Same old 2008 tarpon 120. I've always wanted something a bit more ocean worthy but never really needed it. That may change if I want to venture out of the bay in my new home waters. Well just wanted to say hello and really introduce myself to the community. Hopefully hookup and finally get some yak time soon.

For Sale / Non-yak related. Honda pit bike.
« on: May 17, 2014, 03:20:43 PM »
So I'm attempting to sell my pit bike, I rarely ride it anymore, having bigger bikes and not being real young anymore, I don't see much use in it's future under my ownership. I'm not to confident that an ncka member will be interested, but I know there's a few riders here, also any advice on getting sold is much appreciated.

It has been well ridden so scuffs, scratches and usual wear and tear for dirtbikes is there. It still runs like a champ, the tube in the back tire is popped(8$) and is missing a rear brake rod(25-30$ could be much cheaper with machining skill, since it's easy to make).

Has an endless list of aftermarket parts but the major stuff would be 88cc takegawa bore kit, bbr evo. forks, ishock 250, etc, I could go on and on but if your interested pm or call me and I can give you a complete list and more info.

Will go on CL for 650$ although I completely expect to take as low as 500$ or.... Make me an offer. One last thing even though it's a small bike, it is in no way good for a beginner rider. Thanks for checking it out guys.

General Fishing Tips / Donner kokanee
« on: July 31, 2012, 07:58:43 AM »
I'll be headed to donner on sunday, staying in a cabin with family. I plan to fish in the mornings, always had luck with trout and sometimes macks, bit this time I'll be after kokes. I've heard good reports for them from donner this year but no info on tackle.

So I stocked up on some wedding rings and small bright colored spoons, and I have a large assortment of dodgers and flashers, just wouldn't know where to start. Any and all info is appreciated, mostly looking for reference on what depth and location I should try.

Thanks,
Joe

There's tons of small bass out there right now so I'm going to take out the fly rod and get some practice, launch
Around 4. Hopefully they like wooly buggers lol. I'm very new to fly fishing, anyone got suggestions on bass flies?

Company welcome,
Joe

Not much action yet in the river so I'm going to hit Folsom for some spots this evening, I gotta get my kicks somehow.

Company welcome,

The rafters gone wild event is happening today on the American river, thousands of people floating down the river partying. With so many people on the river at once, a tremendous amount of trash, clothes, shoes, bodily fluids and various other goodies get left in the water. Not sure where I'm going to launch yet but all I'm takin is PDF, paddle, water, and trash bags.

Although the littering bothers me itself, it would bother me even more to not do anything about it. Obviously the event can't be stopped so clean up is in order. I'm sure there are other organizations and people who will be out there doing the same thing for similar reasons, anyone know of any?

If anyone is interested it would be cool to get a carpool going to help pick a longer stretch of river. Thinking about launching at lower sunrise and take out at watt or Howe. Most rafters are taking out at river bend or ancil Hoffman, so I figure this will be the trashy part of the river.

Kind of short notice but if anyone is interested, let me know.

I hope to hit beals this evening, my truck is in the shop, dam A/C compressor seized, it's hard to drive in sac without ac this time of year and I don't have the skill for that kind of fix. Should be done today though.

I've been catching tons of small bass in the area, I'm sure there's bigger ones but gotta work for them. I'll probably hang some minnows a bit deeper than where I've been catching the babies, hopefully that's the ticket.

Company always welcome!!

Hitting Beeks bight this evening to hang minnows for bass or maybe kitties, and bringing the fly rod along to get some practice with the gills. I'll be launching around 5pm, company welcome!  Water is down a little bit, I haven't seen what the level is like at Beeks but wheels might be necessary. I'll have mine if anyone shows up and may need them.

I need some redemption after the Rollins trip took a dive, although I haven't given up on that lake.

For Sale / Brinkmann Smoke'nGrill
« on: May 19, 2012, 11:42:39 AM »
I want get rid of my old Brinkmann Smoke'nGrill, my experience with it is that it's a great smoker but does not hold eneough heat to grill very well. It's not been used in over a year since I bought a newer one with a higher capacity. The smoke'ngrill will hold 10-15 lbs of meat and I hope to get $30 for it. I can drop it off locally or bring it to ARW or upcoming events if a non local to Sac wants it.

Picks up soon.

General Fishing Tips / Minnows on jigs?
« on: March 09, 2012, 09:59:07 AM »
I usually use an egg weight and leader or a three way rig if I know the bottom is snaggy.
I am wondering if anyone rigs their minnows straight onto jig heads for SMBs? I've done it for other species and had it work well so I figure why not.

Hit it a couple times in the past week, caught one bass and watched one swin right under the yak in eight FOW. This lake is to close to home not to take advantage of so I hope to get a grip of it this spring.

As I was getting skunked there yesterday I thought about drifting agents, anyone ever used them for bass in Folsom?

I'll be out there around one launching from dotons point at granite bay, company welcome as always, ch 69.

Kayaks / Need some input
« on: February 22, 2012, 09:42:11 AM »
I'm planning on buying a new(or used) yak in the next month or so. I'm selling off my dirtbikes because they just don't offer as much fun to me as they used to, I have a 2006 Honda crf 230 and a pit bike(pm if interested). I plan to spend 2500-3000 on the yak and it's essential rigging, FF, battery, rod holders, good paddle and leashes.

All I've ever owned is two old WS Tarpon120s, they are great but I've been doing more and more fishing in the big blue over the past few years and would like to find something more suitable for the ocean. I'm 5'10" swing between 165-185 lbs. I've demo paddled many kayaks including Revos, Outbacks, Trident anglers, larger Tarpons, Ride 135, and a few others I don't recall. My dilemma is that I liked them all( somewhat reluctant to join the dark side though). Compared to the T120 I think most of the ones listed would perform better on the salt if not all of them. I'm just lookin for some input from those seasoned salty anglers to help me make a choice.

Fish ID sub-forum / Chub?
« on: February 08, 2012, 01:40:55 PM »
Caught this at eagle lake late summer in 2010. I know the lake contains a large amount of tui chub but have only heard of them getting this size. My second thought was some type of sucker but the mouth was not evident of that. Anyone know?
