Hobie Kayaks / Re: fellow pro angler owners
« on: January 07, 2015, 09:26:35 PM »
I have a 2012 PA-12 later model with the vantage seat. I have the H-bar also. I use the Lowrance 4 FF with GPS. Occasionally, I use the Lake style Down rigger and Hobie live well bait tank. Both side is equipped with Yak Attack rails. I also have one side trolly system for anchor. A yak Attack Light pole and flag installed at the rear of the kayak. A Hobie Sail system used. A pair of Zooka tube rod holders with rod straps and paddle strap. I also attached a pair of Tackle Web pouch to each of the vantage seat arms. I also use a kill bag attached to the rear of the vantage seat plus a bait bag. I have a 36 inch ring system for crabbing and a Scotty trap ease to guide the rope and keep the ring from hitting the side of the kayak. All this on a jet ski trailer modified for the kayak.

I think the Lowrance 5" is priced right but the Hummingbird offers the duel frequency which is similar to the Lowrance chirp.

Not for me. I already have the HDS-7 Gen 2. Its for my friend who saw the ad for under $400.00 for a Helix sounder with transducer

Not sure if this the correct category but wanted to know if the new chirp transducer combo will fit the Lowrance opening on a Hobie. Hummingbird helix,  the 5" inch duel frequency unit for $369.00 or so.

I have a pair of Waxwing rods ( 7'-2) medium rods
using Stradic 5000 fj reel and 20 super 8 slick power pro braid. Best combo for rock fish, Stripers, and for trolling for Salmon. The price seems high as I bought them at much less. Maybe they gone up since a year ago.

CA Regulations / Re: Crab Trap Thievery
« on: June 30, 2014, 06:46:58 AM »
I'm sure people do raid pots as to some of the reason they are empty when checked. Usually these pots are on a long soak of multiple days. Remember the light gauge square pots are day soak pots not intended for longer soaks. Be sure to add at least 8-10 pounds of weight to your pot so they don't walk. Also use weights on your line or lead line rope to keep them up and down and not wandering just below the water line. Remember lots of boat traffic and many lines get wrapped on props and need to be cut away and your pot will be lost forever. Use just enough rope for the tide change to avoid other boats from wrapping their props. Some times it unavoidable but does happen often.

Here is a link from KCRA News. Lucky this person had a personal emergency beacon. Not sure what brand but happy to hear it worked.

If you check Cloud Free from Terrafin it still looks very promising. The big blow turned the surface temp down in my opinion. Their will be lots of hunters this weekend with big boats. I know of a few leaving from HMB and Monterey. Both the Dog Bone and Guide is their present course. I hope they find them.
