Safety First / paddle kayak at the soquel hole Saturday
« on: June 28, 2022, 02:00:54 PM »
Saturday I was fishing in a PB at the soquel hole. Lots of radio chatter about a kayak. Saw him expecting an AI, motor etc. Nope, just a plain SOT. This was around 1 pm, winds picking up even though its still foggy. Later a boater on the radio said the guy is heading back to moss landing, asked for a heading. Boater offered ride, but yakker said no. He had no radio, no gps but did have a pfd.

in my mind those are required goods but in that fog, he needs something more than him and his yak to bounce radar off of. Not to mention the number of boats the zip along at 20-30 knots with not radar in 30 foot vis.

« on: June 28, 2021, 07:53:53 PM »
Hey all,

Been awhile, I was lured to the dark side and have been fishing on a PB lately. Just a heads up that Nathan aka Shark_bait is part of four guys tossing around barbells on Americas got talent tues night the 29th.

for those that dont remember, he was a little kid when he started kayak fishing, then became a spearo, collegiate gymnast, cirque du soleil performer, then covid shut his show down a month before the premier. This is his current gig. But his real claim to fame was being followed by a shark in big sur

General Fishing Tips / spinning the new black for salt?
« on: July 24, 2019, 01:14:45 PM »
recently started binging a bunch of fishing shows and noticed that damn near all are using spinning gear in the ocean. Is there a reason other than the reel manufacturers of America telling me I need to spend more? If you're an ocean spin enthusiast, got a favorite combo?

General Talk / Pavers on a slope?
« on: July 15, 2015, 02:30:49 PM »
in an effort to complete my backyard, I have to either pour concrete or use pavers for a funky L shaped patio. Part of the L has a downhill slop, nothing too steep drops about a foot over its 10 foot width. I want to avoid terracing or retaining walls if possible. At the base of the slope is a big solid 4 by 8 that the outer fence attaches to, the pavers would have that to hold it in place on the downhill side. Think the pavers will work?

General Talk / Refinishing a redwood deck
« on: June 26, 2015, 07:15:43 PM »
Any advice on staining a deck without the the cleaner/brightener routine first?

my 15 year old deck was sanded down and stained with sunfrog about 3 years ago. It is starting to fade so I pressure washed it and was ready to slap a new layer on. While researching stains, seems everyone says I need to chemically clean then brighten the deck. Not sure if I really need to do that or if they are just trying to sell more product. Anyone just restained after pressure washing?

General Talk / Shark_bait made All American
« on: May 21, 2015, 12:33:40 PM »
Nathan has been competing for the University of Washington this last season, and was selected as an "All American." He has been working his butt off for years, and earned this one big time. The only bad news is that he is not spearing fish so my freezer looks thin  :smt003

General Talk / anyone have a lawyer recommendation?
« on: October 22, 2014, 12:43:18 PM »
My company was sued for sexual harassment, company went bankrupt, now they are coming after the owners to "pierce the corporate veil." My current attorney is from Watsonville and is good at defense.  Looking for a lawyer that specializes in corporate stuff and is more of an offense type.  Anybody have recommendations?

thanks

General Talk / non fishing Las Vegas Belly Report
« on: September 25, 2014, 04:34:49 PM »
My older son Josh turned 21 this month so Robin and I met Josh and his girlfriend at the SF airport then flew to Vegas.  One of Nathan's friend is in a Cirque de Soleil show, Mystere. He got us great discount seats and a backstage tour.  After the show he even gave us a ride back to our hotel.  The ladies enjoyed a day at the spa while I taught Josh how to play craps.  Had a hell of a ride; up, down, sideways but never really winning or losing. Josh wanted to try a slot machine and I was sitting next to him halfheartedly playing. My little machine starts dinging and I win $1275.  The cool thing is that this is some community thing so all the machines playing at the same time as I win. Josh wins $1275 also. Unfortunately any win over $1200 gets reported to the IRS and we had to get a form w-2G.  Darn tax man.

However the coolest thing that happened was not gambling related.  Josh and I go into the Aria casino which has a big brass Buddha statue that people rub for good luck. Josh heads to the bathroom, while I wait outside. This really attractive woman is rubbing Buddhas belly in a very sensual manner. She looks over at me, smiles a seductive smile, and gestures me over. I do one of those "look to see who she is gesturing to" double takes to see I am the only one around.  As I walk over she hold both hands out and says with a very heavy accent, "Please, Please." I always tease Robin that she had better watch out, someday I will find a hot babe who has a sumo fetish. Could this be my lucky day?

It's then I notice the phone in her hand.  She wants me to take her picture with Buddha. Fantasy crushed.

General Talk / Closed my business

Article is a pretty good summary of what all has been going on.  Once the place is cleaned up, time for some serious fishing.

General Talk / legal malpractice?
« on: July 15, 2014, 09:37:47 PM »
Is an attorney required to inform their client that damages are unlikely to be collected?  If the client assumes that a big payday is likely and the attorney knows otherwise, is that some type of breach of conduct if the attorney stay quiet?
