General Fishing Tips / Mooching questions
« on: June 14, 2021, 08:19:18 PM »
Im looking to give mooching a try this year and I have some questions. I noticed most people use a levelwind or a mooching reel. Do I really need a levelwind or can I use my Avet? Are line counters necessary? Im also curious about rod length. Seems people like a longer noodly rod. Any recommendations and advice? I searched the forum but thought Id ask too

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Paddle Leash Recommendation
« on: March 20, 2021, 11:36:35 AM »
Hey anyone here have any current recommendations for a good paddle leash? I want one that chokes around the paddle and not velcro. Also a decent length. I was at Claveys recently and they had some nice ones but not what im looking for. Im not looking to start a debate on whether one should use a leash or not. Just looking for a good recommendation for a quality leash

Kayaks / Maiden Voyage
« on: November 22, 2020, 11:35:08 AM »
Well it only took 11 months, but it finally came. And it was worth the wait. Picked up my new Stealth this weekend and took it for a quick spin on the bay. Fricken Awesome! It is incredibly light. I literally carried it on my shoulder to and fro. It was surprisingly very stable. I was expecting it to be a little more tippy but I felt rock solid on it. Of course we'll see on a day where there is swell and chop. It is quite comfortable. When I first saw the cockpit I thought it might be tight, but it was more roomy than appeared. In fact, the foot pedals may need to come in a bit. It is fast. And it just glides. I got a lot of learning to do but with me hacking away at the water, I was still moving along quite swiftly. Much faster that my revo 13. There will be a big learning curve, and I will have make some adjustments and figure stuff out. Obviously I will have to take out many more times before I have a true opinion. But so far, this boat has lived up to the hype and is quite impressive

Fishing Pics / November score
« on: November 13, 2020, 10:18:45 AM »
Got out yesterday for some much needed water time. Slow day, but on the way in I came across a float of birds who appeared to be following bait. Got in next to them and my first rod goes off with a real nice crappie. A minute later second one goes off and puts up a fun lil fight. Get it netted and see its a bow. Awesome, thats what I want. I immediately put it between my legs without looking at it while I scramble to get my line back in. When I get around to putting it on the stringer, I see the head and realize that its not a trout! I'm pretty sure I just scored my first landlocked king! This is a bucketlister so I'm pretty stoked. Anyways, my girlfriend is sick of hearing about it so I gotta brag somewhere

General Talk / High or Low angle paddling?
« on: July 06, 2020, 06:33:24 PM »
Hey everyone. I am currently waiting on a new yak. Ive been a Hobie owner for a couple years now and I really don't know how to paddle. My new yak is traditional not pedal. Ive been researching how to paddle and have been practicing on my Revo. I have found it a little difficult to paddle with a high angle stroke mainly due to my rod holder placement. When I do remove the holder it is much better but obviously I tire easily. I know my technique is bad which is probably the major factor there. My question is, what do other paddlers prefer and why? I know the low angle is better or easier for longer distances, but I for some reason want to have high angle stroke. I don't really know why other than I don't know what im doing. I need to buy a paddle and I want to buy one that fits my stroke. Anyways, I was hoping some of you could chime in and educate me a bit and share your opinions

General Fishing Tips / Totally dumb question
« on: April 05, 2020, 09:06:19 AM »
Hey so I got a dumb question and I'm sure there is a very obvious answer. Why don't you ever see people use live bait for salmon? I looked through the regs but couldn't find anything. Does it just not work well? Anyways just looking to talk about anything other than covid

« on: April 04, 2019, 08:58:23 AM »
Hey guys. My company is looking to do a fishing trip in the upcoming months. Are there any other party boats other than the New Sea out of bodega? The last time I was down at the harbour I thought I saw another boat about the same size as the New Sea. Tried to google but nothing came up. Thought maybe some of you guys might have some info

Fishing Pics / PB at Tomales 9/22
« on: September 23, 2018, 11:50:17 AM »
Hit up Nick's after not being on the water for three weeks. Felt great to be on the water again but after all day without a single bite I was getting a little discouraged. Thought I might be getting 3 in a row on trips getting skunked. Decided to stick it out and landed my PB on the final drift. Its no monster but I'm pretty stoked and proud. 34"and 15#
