General Talk / Re: Paddle vs Pedal vs Sailing Fishing Tactics« on: May 03, 2023, 05:28:28 PM »I think I've observed what most folks here use, and have noticed trends in how they tend to use their kayaks. What am I missing here? What are the main reasons y'all chose one kayak over another, and what are your primary fishing techniques?I have a standard kayak and a pedal drive kayak. I love them both. But.....Ive found myself using my paddling almost exclusively. In fact, I almost never use my Hobie . One of the main reasons is the simplicity of loading and unloading gear. They are lighter and less components to load. Just paddle, fishing gear and safety gear. I don't even have a seat so way less things to potentially forget. I do favor the pedal drive in freshwater. Perfect for a lazy day on the lake. Just depends on the angler. I got bored with pedal drives and find paddling much more exhilarating......never tried sailing but it looks sweeeet! 9

General Talk / Re: What's happening in retail... brief update« on: December 11, 2022, 05:35:52 PM »The Revo is hands down the fastest non sail yak out there. I love my 2012, but wish I had waited for the 2013 with the Lawrence ducer mount and new seat. My opinion anywayI dunno know....... A Stealth 575 might be faster. Especially with an experienced paddler. A 525 is pretty dang fast and a 575 is faster. But I don't have experience with a Revo 16. My 525 is definitely faster than my Revo 13. Just my opinion too 12

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: August Halibut in Alameda?« on: August 07, 2022, 02:14:05 PM »I did Muir to Rocky on 8/2. Pulled a big fat skunk and a wave to the face. Pretty quiet out there it seemed. Not much bait and birds, no whales, some jellies. Launched Muir and trolled a BCP in 60-70' and 30-50' down up to Rocky. Did some laps, headed back to Muir and did some laps there. Only saw two boats and never saw a net fly. I don't have your slayperience so you might have better results. Hope you get emLast weekend's salmon trip was on a power boat, not a kayak, so I didn't report it. Headline is that I went out on my buddy's small cuddy cabin (22 feet) with 3 of us on board. Went straight to Dux, tacked toward Stinson Beach and found a spot of big fish. We ended up with 6 hogs, all over 20 pounds, with the biggest over 30. I had a 55 lb. limit.Dang...thanks for that...I hope to fish that route tomorrow, Dux to Stinson... |
