CA Regulations / Re: There’s A Bat in My House!
« on: October 03, 2018, 07:40:38 AM »
I was moving from one place to another in Nevada City and pulled an empty box out of the rafters in the garage to  pack stuff in.  When I brought it into the house and opened it, there was what looked like a 10 inch diameter ball of some kind of gray, fuzzy mold in one of the corners of the box so I took it outside because I didn't want some kind of spore release in the house.  When I set it down just outside the front door, the "mold" ball exploded right in my face.  Put me right on my can.  It was a  bundle of bats that probably had been hibernating (it was Spring).  Once I recovered I could only hope that the weather was warm enough that they would be OK.  One of those moments....

I've tried a couple of times; can't tell if the PM's are getting through.  Have you received any from me?

No problem; sent you another.  Let's see if that gets through.  Thanks.

Yet another thing to do with a fishing net, catch them unharmed.

Looks like what we used to call a Leopard fish in Liberia.  Vicious creature responsible for many attacks on bathers and swimmers.  The reason that men wear their underwear in the rivers when bathing.  Loves, as it were, softbaits...

General Talk / Re: Offshore Yak fishing resort in Asia

Well, to sort of address your question here are things that I would like to see as a traveler.  1.  Is it easy?  All travel arrangements from the point of landing in country to leaving should be entirely handled or detailed so your customers have no problems at all.  2.  Quality of accommodation: clean, operable - especially the plumbing.  Try to keep the roaches down if you get my drift.  Food prep and ingredients should be top tier.   Access to top notch medical care regardless of situation, including if necessary, emergency air transport to appropriate facilities- you don't need to charge for it but should have secured the means to provide it if necessary well in advance.  I've seen it organized down to the level of nearest airstrip in the bush for fixed wing evacuation to the main airport for charter straight to a German hospital.  Time from injury in an African jungle in the middle of nowhere to being in the air for bound for said hospital with attending physician: 120 minutes max.  The diplomatic arrangements were the hardest to procure.  With any luck, you'll have facilities in country and can avoid that.  On the fishing part itself, since it is for yaks offshore do you have appropriate search, rescue and safety procedures and equipment in place?  If I was going out in foreign waters, I would probably want an epirb on my yak.  Depending on the part of Asia, what are you going to do for pirates?  Nearshore crocs?  Salties migrate there by chance?  I'm sure you've addressed all of this, but since you seem to be looking for market perceptions, that's what I'm thinking offhand....

Is a trim thruster similar to a bow or stern thruster?  Same thing?

It takes a beating but is easily "repaired" unlike powder coating.   I also delude myself into thinking that it will deaden the report of lead on rock which I just can't imagine is the best  "that sounds like something to eat" sound.  fwiw

I've been dipping mine in tool handle rubber, makes them red and it's easy and convenient.  I'm sure there are other colors too, just haven't looked.  It takes a couple of seconds to dip and hang one to dry.

I'll be down there Tuesday with a buddy.  We're both newbs more learning the displaying prowess.  We've been hitting various areas and have no preferences of which I know.  If you have a place you'd want to go I can raise it with my buddy.  Lemme know...

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: 7/7/11 SWS

I was there Monday and actually saw the sample being taken right by the pier below the steps just a couple of feet from the freshwater.  Talked to the guy and he said that Stillwater always has higher counts because of the still water.  Did not get into much else because we were offloading and couldn't remain there.

A little over an hour away but I'd be up for it; this week I'm gone though.

No, we're on the same track.  I was just thinking of something to lock it in when on a big fish in case it started to slip.  The unit itself would be what you already have more or less.  The FW guy will be a big help; he's already been through this.  I'll be in Monterey taking MBK's basic class on Sunday; I'll pass you twice.  I'm not sure of my schedule, or yours for that matter, but I'll let you know and maybe we can hook up.  Regardless of how you end up addressing it, it'll get done and the boy will fish independently.

The boy seems unlikely to indicate something not right; you just have to watch him closely without being obvious (side note: love your shades).  My sister has made a career out of helping little children just like him; hobbies and activities are a wonder.  She combines her loves of children and horses, gets the little ones on her horses and teaches them horsemanship.  The progression from internalized, shy and non-verbal to outgoing, confident little chatterboxes who chew gum and kick ass brings good things to all.  Frankly I'd like to see him in the running for AOTY next year so I can listen to the competing "men" argue "assisted fishing."    :smt044

Sounds like you're on the right track.  Contouring can be very customized by using duct tape for the shaping; it's tough, fairly waterproof and you can replace it whenever you want as needed.  You might need a strap to hold the piece onto his forearm under load.  I'm thinking if his arm is bent roughly 90 degrees, the strap would hold to the lower part of his upper arm just above the elbow, around the lower part of the triceps.  Another strap would harness lightly around his shoulder to keep the first strap from falling down.  Motion would be unimpeded and the piece can't fall off.  Another thought is to space small foam strips inside the piece to make lands and grooves like in a rifle barrel for a little ventilation to keep the sweating down a bit.

Keep us informed.  I think the harness offer is stellar and will provide a good base and maybe all he needs.  If not, I am willing to put in the time to help make whatever is needed.
