About 8 of us are planning a camping trip for the end of May. No kayaks this time, but we'd like a spot with some fun hiking and a bit of fishing. Preferably within a 3 or so hour drive of San Francisco. Any one have a good recommendation?

Thanks!
Brent

I'm a big fan of the Desolation Wilderness area (it's a touch over 3 hours though).  I hit Ralston lake quite a bit over the summer, couple little lakes you can fish, pretty scenic, lots of hiking potential around there.

Try Jenkinson Lake. Very pretty. I think Sierra Camp or Hazel Creek Camp are the best choice. Just under 3 hours from the Bay Area. The Small Mouth should be spawning. Lots of great wineries close by - free tasting. The back end is great for kayaks.
Take Hwy 50 to Pollock Pines - south on E16 about 6 or so miles. $28 per site (max 8 people) Probably best to get two sites
Bad news, no hot showers.
