General Fishing Tips / Trolling for trout at Shadowcliff
« on: February 14, 2012, 01:42:04 PM »
Thinking about taking my maiden voyage at Shadowcliff and attempt to troll for some trout while I'm at it.  I'm pretty newbie when it comes to trout fishing, even more so on a kayak.  I can see that some people troll rapala jointed minnows.  What size and depth lures are most of you using when trolling for trout?  Also, I don't have a depth/fish finder yet so I am guessing I will have to try various depths to find the fish?  Other than that, I only have some kastmasters, trout spinners, powerbait, and powerworms which would only seem fit if I post up at a spot.  Any beginner advice and tips are appreciated.  Thanks!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Measuring device/Rulers?
« on: February 07, 2012, 06:04:51 PM »
I notice variety of measuring devices are used on kayaks, but what stands out are those white tray style rulers that a lot of people seem to be using across their laps.  Not sure what the name of it is, but can't seem to find it anywhere.  I'm sure a couple diff brands exist out there, but if anyone can list a few, that would be great.  Thanks!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Extra seat padding/cushion
« on: February 06, 2012, 01:29:53 PM »
So the kayak seat that I have looks like it can be fine for short periods but seems like it can be uncomfortable during long periods on the water, especially pedaling.  Saw some youtube videos with people that put extra padding/cushion underneath the kayak seat, but couldn't figure out exactly what they were using.  Just wanted to see what all of you guys do in terms of extra padding on the seat for a more comfortable outing.  Any input is appreciated.  Thanks!

Hobie Kayaks / Older Generation Hobie Outback vs New
« on: January 24, 2012, 10:33:32 AM »
Looks like I'll be pulling the trigger on an older gen Hobie Outback, around a 2005 model.  Been doing a lot of reading and research past weeks, and from what I've gathered, it sounds like there are few differences in the newer models, such as the rudder (goes up/down vs twist & stow).  I have also heard that the older gen have a hatch under the seat that contributes to a lot of water entering the hull, but not a big issue.  Just wanted to see if there were any current owners of the older gen or have owned both old and new gen outbacks, that can share some advice, tips and main differences between the old and new.  Looks like I'll be getting on the water this year....FINALLY!   :smt003

General Talk / Kayak roof rack/mount for Acura sedan
« on: January 18, 2012, 02:10:50 PM »
Probably not the most ideal, but its the only car I've got, so will most likely be transporting my future kayak in this car.  I have a 4 door Acura TL.  Anyone else out there transporting their kayaks in a non truck/suv?

So I've been looking at roof racks, and mostly notice Thule and Yakima brands, all around the $300 mark.  Just wanted to get some feedback from other members and see what options I have in terms of transporting a kayak in my current vehicle.  If anyone has any suggestions as to other brands and such that might be a little less pricey, please feel free to post any thoughts.  Thanks!

Introductions / Hello All...New to NCKA
« on: January 17, 2012, 10:49:38 AM »
Hello everyone....its been a few weeks since I've joined and been overwhelmed with the amount of information that's available on the site.  Just wanted to drop a line and say hi to all the NCKA members.  I've been fishing for a long time but never from a kayak.  Matter of fact, I don't own a kayak yet, but just thought this site would be the place to start to get me in the right direction.  I'm in the market for a pedal driven kayak, new or used.  If anyone is planning on selling their setup in the coming months, please feel free to shoot me a PM.

In any case, looking forward to reading all the useful information provided on here and you can bet that you'll be hearing a lot from me once I purchase my kayak and have it up and going.  Hope to meet some of you out there someday.  Peace.
