Id like to fish Monterey Bay for Sand Dabs but not sure how deep or where to fish. I understand that a Sabiki line works great. Any advice or recommendations greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to make a post about a fun day today at Stillwater. It was fun to paddle out and enjoy the beuitful scenery. The winds threatened to push us of the water early but fortunately backed down and made the day very comfortable. The rock cod hits and catches were steady throughout the morning. I did manage a fat vermillion . I would really like to catch a ling cod but remai n lingless todate. I did manage a underling today so I guess Im getting close. It was nice to meet up with Jayd and Soulfish1 who had been on the water early but to the South. It is always nice to meet up with other NCKA members on the water.

Andy, how are doing. I hope hope the fresh air and clean smell of the ocean sea breeze got you feelin better. Cant wait till rock cod season. See you then.

Having been an avid surfer through my more youthful days  and the ocean  has taught me to be very respectful and know my limits. Its a sport with no "time outs" or re-do's. I love ocean kayacking but I carry that same respect. Ive always been confortable with a good wetsuit and booties. Ive noticed when practicing getting back on my kayack from the water that with a wetsuit and PDF I am more bouyant floating in the water and dont have to tread as much water. 52 degrees ouch!!

Im thinking about going out in Monterey on Sunday 25th if the weather is not to bad. It would be nice to get out on the water and try fishing for sand dabs. Looking for advice on how to catch em. I hear out past the red bouy is a good place to start. Curious ....I believe fishing for sand dabs is open all year?

I agree with Sin Coast that the swell is actually huge in the Monterey Bay area!!! My daughter and I were walking along the beach out by the Fort Ord coastal region and the surf whitewash was almost coming up to the bluffs at times!!  Im guessing 12ft breakers.

Sorry it took so long for me to get this post out from Saturdays Nov 15 2008 event at Stillwater Cove Pebble Beach (Paradise Cove).  I have pictures that are worth a thousand words and many thanks to the great members of NCKA that were out on the water that day. It was a pleasure to meet "Stogie". Get this,  Im telling Stogie that I would have really liked to catch a Verm that day but as we were paddling back in we decided to drop lines at a location were these other NCKA members were complaining that the lings would not leave them alone ( jesterly) and within minutes I hear this yell of joy !! Stogies got a nice verm to end off his day. As we made it back in everyone was in a great mood and hungry!!. Thanks to Fishmaster 1 for leading us to this great spot in Pebble Beach  were he then proceeds to demonstrate his newly engineered Fish Master 1 Barbeque. Within 30 minutes the most awesome food was being prepared in the most awesome of settings along the coast, clear blue skies, hot weather, surf breaking strong, beer drinking stronger!. The Pebble Beach tourist were green with envy but appreciated the  aroma smell of Monster Guppies porterhouse steaks and AlhobieOutback fish that he caught that morning..surf and turf  dining for sure. Ok enough said but many thanks to the great bunch of NCKA members for a day that will stay in my memory to get me through to next season.

Thanks for the report. I had to work today or I would have joined you. I did notice the offshore winds around Monterey Bay out to Asilomar. To my surprise Pebble Beach and Carmel were relatively calm around 2PM. It looked as though Carmel was protected from the winds.

Ill bring some beer and brats for the barbeque at Stillwater Pebble Beach
