Man, I usually get this all wrong, haha. I tend to just put a square knot, and then a couple wraps of elec tape over it, then spool it nice and tight. Never had one slip like that, but also never been "spooled" either.
I got a new Penn Fathom 40 (for no good reason really)

I buy stuff for no good reason all the time, haha.

I have something similar..
Doesn’t everyone? The struggle is real  :smt044

Especially with kayak fishing!  It's like a gear junkies dream sport!

I learned not to go near Bodega Tackle or Outdoor Pro Shop on payday weekends  :smt005

For me it's Dicks. On the way home from work, right off the highway.  Usually have what I am after too.  The Bay Point bait shop has the goodies too, but I don't have to drive past that one everyday.

I am not sure of the names. Actually, I like to call it Aleph knot because it reminds me of the Hebrew aleph letter.

In any case, I tie the knot directly to the spool, without tape. It doesn’t slip. But I never got fully unspooled while fighting a fish so I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not. I would say though that I used this knot for rock climbing, so it’s safe enough that I put my life on it.

I added some pictures on the steps. Demonstrating it on my shoe bench. Notice that when you make the loops, you need to pinch them so they stay open because at the last step, you run the tag end through them. I use this knot also with mono for anything possible.

I wanna be a fishing youtuber also!  think I have a chance?  I made this one after a lcal guy demo'd his palomar knot across the roof of his car, doing all the workat chest level, out of view. So, this was my response.  Do I have a chance at fame and fortune?

But I forgot to start out driving in my car, saying "Hey guys..."  If I can find that floral porkpie hat I can do more.
