Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / 6/4 no joy
« on: June 04, 2016, 08:05:47 PM »
Took a ride up 88 and fished for no joy. Launched at Silver....nada. Went to Red Lake, I caught two tiny (8") cutthroat planters from shore. Cody caught nada otw. West Carson, nada. Caples on the way home from shore...not a bite. But a great day. Grilling up some fish n steaks, hitting Tyler Island for night fishing, then to Bodega to catch minus tide at daylight to dig clams. Can't end on a skunk for the little man! #itsbangtime

General Talk / New addition
« on: May 24, 2016, 10:04:40 AM »
Well, I let my girlfriend move in. Not because I am in love, not because I could use the help with rent, all that is true. This gal can cook! She has not cooked much wild game other than frying steaks and frying fish. She decided the other day to cook something for me, she said she would just reach into the freezer and pull something out.....

Wild turkey drumsticks.....

I come home and seen them thawed out, and I thought, "you swing for the fence!" I have cooked them twice, and have not had a good meal out of them yet. BUT, I kept my mouth shut, and she went to work in the kitchen, and I was banished to my hobby table.

The smell was amazing, and two hours later...we had rubber. BUT, it was TASTY rubber!! So, like me, she cannot leave a bad mark on the record, so she redeemed herself last night with a long, slow braising of wild turkey leg quarters.

Recipes / Duck tacos

I used widgeon, but they all are great this way, and so easy! Season as you wish, sear hot and fast the whole breasts and leg quarters. Slice and top with what you like. I have to say, some roasted anaheims would launch these tacos into legendary status! #whyihunt

General Talk / Ticketed for paying
« on: November 10, 2015, 08:31:02 AM »
I parked at Hog Back boat launch Sunday, and was ticketed. Non-payment, stub # from the envelope was not in iron ranger.

I dont see how that is my fault. I plan to contest it. Anyone else have experience with this?

General Talk / Fun While it Lasted
« on: October 02, 2015, 04:18:38 PM »
I am kinda of relieved to post this, It's Bang Time is done. I won't be doing the podcast anymore, letting the website go, etc. Lots of factors into my choice to do it, including lawsuits, death threat emails (5-10 a DAY) that I should post just for fun, scheduling guests, and technical issues with the studio and the website. It just stopped being "fun" and that is not what I wanted. I wanted to have fun, and it was a blast for a year! It let me go on some trips that I never would have, opened opportunity for me and the kids, and I met a lot of great friends in the process. Health issues also came into play.
I was thinking of keeping the website and keep up with the recipes and blog, but decided to not do that. Going to be doing what I want, and that is hunt and fish just about everyday! So, with early goose opening tomorrow morning..........IT's BANG TIME!

Thanks for supporting my venture, and stuff. lol

My favorite way to make rock fish, other than tacos! Easy recipe, lots of variety, change it up! Easy cleanup and great to get the kids involved with too!

General Talk / taking on tons of water
« on: September 06, 2015, 11:35:15 PM »
Went to the delta tonight,  Cody said his yak was feeling squirrely and like he was dragging something. Got to the shore and yep, 20+ gallons of water in the hull  :smt013
Drained it and made way for the truck. Same when we got to the launch. Gotta put it on blocks n find the leak tomorrow instead of fishing. Great....

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / 8/29 sac port report
« on: August 29, 2015, 12:25:08 PM »
Launched in the dark and headed to the turning basin trolling lots of stuff with my boy. Nada. Headed to Cemex dock aka crappie row. Wind started blowing with the sunrise, and made drifting medium minnows really tough in between the pilings. (I have written permission to be there, before some dock nazi replies it is a no fish zone)
Cody got a huge takedown on his light tackle rod, line is peeling off, and I knew he had a big kitty! Caught a lot of big cats there over the years with Gabe on medium minnows going for crappie.
Cody gets it to the yak after his best sleigh ride to date, and fouls it with the net, and the biggest catfish he has ever hooked into, is gone. If you look close at the pic, you can see a tear on his cheek! Lol.
We picked up a few shaker stripers on our way back. Saw a couple salmon roll by the locks, lots of people tossing spinners but didnt see any hooked up. Too early I think for salmon there.

General Talk / Gold Dust
« on: August 27, 2015, 12:09:33 PM »
A few years ago, I posted a hookup and took a bunch of you out gold panning. Guitarzan took a bunch of pictures of my gold dust refining process, and I finally compiled it all into a short how-to article. Pretty simple, and you probably have everything you need already at your house!
Every fall, I love to go hunt, but hunting dies off around lunch time. So I like to go and do some prospecting, and just save the gold that I get. Once I have enough, and it only takes a few trips to gather enough, I do this with the fine gold so that it is easier to handle and sell/use.

Recipes / Poor Man's Lobster
« on: August 24, 2015, 09:20:46 AM »
Cody caught a halibut a while ago, and that night we made this recipe. I like doing this with halibut once in a while, it is extremely easy, and perty darn good! Never tried it with stripers, so we tried a little off the one he caught that day too. Striper is just too flaky for this recipe. Cabezon are great this way, and I want to try leopard shark and monkeyface eel cooked like this. You swear you are eating lobster!
