Wanted To Buy / Extra paddle needed
« on: July 31, 2017, 10:43:06 AM »
Hey guys! I'm looking for an extra paddle, something like the ones that come with your kayak stock, even if it's stuck as a one piece when it used to be a two piece. Looking to spend $50 or less, if you have one laying around collecting dust and you will be at Albion, hit me up! Thanks!

Hey NCKA family! Just wanted to introduce our newest family member and future NCKA fish slayer:

Kaileo Jacob Shu weighing in at 6 lbs 10 oz., he arrived yesterday at 7:09am.

(Sorry no hawg trough pic)

Mom and baby are doing great, and older brother wanted to hold him!

I know I've been MIA lately and we missed the festivities at Albion, but you can bet that this Shu clan will be there next year! I miss the NCKA madness but looking forward to getting back out on the water with you guys soon.

Woo Hoo! Finally!

Solsrf1(Mike) and I contemplated where we should fish today for salmon. The SC bite slowed down and the HMB bite was hit or miss. We decided on HMB since we did see salmon coming in from pb's fishing real close a week ago.

Launched into the fog a little after six, took a while to get out to the cans then dropped the lines in and started trolling near a few boats here and there.

Some were mooching and some were trolling. We switched to mooching for a while, then back to trolling. Got a hit and got a few head shakes for about 10 seconds and it let go...wasn't sure if it was a rockfish, ling, or salmon...

Didn't see or hear of much action until about 10 when a pb trolling had one on and landed it. 15 minutes later Mike gets a hit on the deep diver which comes off and I get a hit on the crippled herring behind a dodger...this one felt strong and took off running, right under mikes yak and near his line, yikes! After a little turning, maneuvering, and guiding the fish into the net...yee haw! landed, bled, and a few photos...

We tried trolling the rest of the day and no more action, except a couple of rockfish stealing our baits.

Thanks Mike for the company and a great day on the water...the sun even came out in HMB. Feels good to part of the club...

For Sale / Penn Jigmaster 500 - Alan Tani-ized! $100
« on: May 10, 2011, 06:08:50 PM »
Hey Everyone,

I was hanging out with Alan Tani and he wanted me to pass on that he has a reel for sale. It is highly recommended by him for saltwater kayak fishing because of how easy it is to maintain after ocean fishing or even dropping in the sand, partly because its easy to take apart, but also it has bushings instead of bearings which are less prone to corrosion. I bought a jigmaster 501 and had Alan hot rod it, and used it for the first time Sunday at SWS, its pretty nice! Here are some pics of mine, and also after use I unscrew one thumbscrew, take the spool out, and drop some reel oil in. Put it back together, and I'm done! Mine is the red one, the one for sale is the black one. Also, here is the link to the reel rebuild on his site:
http://alantani.com/index.php?topic=20.0

The upgrades are:

Reel service by Alan
Upgraded larger pete kolekar handle
Stainless steel gear sleeve
Carbon fiber drag washers
300yds Yozuri Hybrid 30lb line

If anyone is interested, I can bring it up to GS5 on saturday.

Roger

Hey Everyone!

Just thought i'd share our experience down here in Mexico. My fiance Kim and I attended a wedding in Isla Mujeres and now we're in Cancun... of course i needed to check out the fishing and get some lines wet, especially after seeing all the posts on the rockfish openers. The wedding was awesome, the water is beautiful and the weather is fantastic! We signed up for a trip through the hotel for $125 and headed to puerto maroma (between cancun and playa del carmen). On the water by 8:30 and trolled around for the next 4 hours. It was pretty slow at first, then we got a tip from one of the other boats in the fleet that live bait was the ticket... i'll let the pics tell the rest of the story.
