Kayaks / Re: New angler on board.... need some advice/opinions

Any opinions on the native ultimate 14.5? I understand that this would be an awful kayak on the ocean, but for calmer waters it might be pretty decent. Looks expensive and accessories would be harder to make, you would prolly have to buy the pricey ones they sell.... I like the extra pack space though, and the ability to ride tandem

2
Any word on how fast you can get that going solo or tandem?

Anybody know which is faster? the T15 or the tarpon 160? I am starting to lean more towards the t15 now, but if its sluggish that might be a deal breaker

Hey Sin Coast, us WiscAHnsiners actually pronounce it Californy like in south park... jk, Thanks for the offer with Kayaking, i deffinatley gotta get to the west coast, but it will prolly be a while before i can get the chance.

Check these shoes out, pricey but i think they would be pretty good for kayaking http://www.shoes.com/Shopping/productdetails.aspx?catalog_name=web&pg=5081841&p=EC1128016&CMP=OTC-GoogleBase&partnerid=GoogleBase&cpc=GoogleBase&=campaign=The+North+Face&category=M&cpckw=The+North+Face+Mens+Dafda+Boa+Shoe+(Black/Grey)&CAWELAID=321751006# They got the Boa technology.

Hey thanks Guys, Ben I will look into the Werner Camano, I haven't even thought about a paddle yet so it will be good to have something to compair and look into.

Hightide, How was 68D I am sure you have learned alot of useful stuff, I am taking a CLS course In a couple of days, nothing like getting paid to learn. Anyways Hightide what kind of traps do you use for your crayfish, can you or anyone for that matter vouche for the traps on this site http://www.terrybullard.com/crayfish_products.html

It's gonna be hard to test out some kayaks, I think there is a place 2 hours away from me back home. U guys are lucky on the west coast, I am sure you cant go more that 20 miles without running into stores selling kayaks. But i Will make it work, i think there is an REI in Madison.

Wisconsin lakes are full of bluegill, when i was younger and didnt know what i was doing my buddy and i would just let the line drag with a fly on the end of it and we would pick up bluegill just getting to our spots, and that was when i didn't even know what trolling was.

I bet these sabiki's would rock on them, and that is going to be one of the first lines i drop when i get home

Hey everyone, thanks for the support! It's really cool to how much everyone cares and how much people stick up for the soldier, it doesn't go unnoticed in the slightest bit.

This T13 and T15 talk have deffinatley made my choices much harder, so i really need to do my research now, and to take in consideration all the good points everyone is posting...

I am also working on getting a NCKA patch made up from the sowing shop to wear on my outer tactical vest, i figure that way i can represent and also discover if there are any NCKA member that are on the base, or at least if any yak members that recognize NCKA. I will post some pics once its done, it should be about a week though.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: PRODUCT REVIEWS
« on: June 23, 2009, 06:11:58 PM »
Its gonna be good when i get home i am just going to be splurging money on gear/kayak, i plan some of the other layers, plus like i said earlier i hunt also so alot of the gear like the gps i plan on getting and the clothing i will also be able to use hunting. Is there a type of shoe that you recommend? one that can handle getting wet pretty decently that i could still hike in or wear out on the water all day?

Hey Bird, i gotta agree with you on the polartec, The army issues us that stuff, i got 2 pairs of the light layer which is expendable which means i get to keep it for free!!....

I havent used it in a wet environment, What would you say about how well it insulates when wet? but i have used it hunting and i must say you can't even notice your wearing other than the fact it keeps you warm :smt066

Hey everyone, thanks for all the good info. I am going to look harder at the t13 and t15, or its going to be a tarpon 140. Also EWB nice pick of the car setup, i plan on doing that similiar and now that i know it works i can by some cheap car and a nice kayak which is really what important lol.

I Plan on doing alot of muskie, bass, and bluegill fishing. I would like to tackle some sturgeon, but only a few areas can u actually fish for sturgeon, otherwise you can spear fish them in the winter which is what is traditionally done, only problem with that is i don't think i will be able to do that off a kayak seeing all the lakes are frozen.

my other big plan is crayfishin. I really wish i was on the ocean where i could go shrimpin or crab trapping but i will have to supplement with crayfish.

with the 160 i have to say that is a more reason for me to get it, i also have been carefully saving and plan on getting a cheap car and a nice yak rather than nice car and a cheap yak that brings me to another question is it possibly to strap a 16 footer on a 4 door sedan, lol i plan on riding the streets with a kayak that is more expensive strapped to a beater.

i am wondering how easily it will be to turn with a 160 down tight creeks. Also i have looked at the t15 also, would you guys say the t15 is pretty fast, i have plans to cover some ground and to make some weekend long fishing/camping trips as soon as i get things set up when i get home.

So i am new to NCKA, and not only that Kayak fishing.... Currently i am in afghanistan, but when i get home i plan to splurge hard earn cash on my first kayak and some quality gear. I have been reading alot of threads and i have to say that i am between a tarpon 140 or 160, being 6'5" and 200lbs i am thinking the 160 would be a better choice, but i plan to fish many creeks, rivers and lakes, i am hard pressed to make up my mind.

Also after reading posts i am zeroing in on a cuda 242 for my ff and a garmin 400i or garmin 60csx... so far those are my big planned buys.

The twist of the whole matter is, and mabye i will recieve some scruttiny on the matter but, i am a wisconsin native... but ncka members from my reading, the most knowledgable and experienced anglers, hence i am now one. I do have a goal however to make it to the west coast next summer to do some quality salt fishing.

Anybody wanna post there two cents even if it doesn't apply to my topic i am glad to read it.
