Hello Al,

I'd be interested in the video if it's still available, I've been binge watching Koke vids lately for Trinity / Whiskytown lakes, can never have too much info.
What are you wanting for it, I'm in Trinity County, I could send you some postage money???

Craftsmen's Corner / Re: Kayak Skid Plate
« on: March 02, 2020, 11:34:33 PM »
Not sure if it would fit your needs, but i recently saw a really cheap cradle / skid plate that a guy made from a rope & piece of poly barrel that he molded into shape.
It was pretty ingenious & I have been thinking about copying his idea. He dragged his kayak to the waters edge with the rope, launched & left the skid plate there. He said when he returns he just paddles right back onto the plate & drags it back up.

I've been thinking of something along those lines, could you explain it further, I've got a Outback and Revo, I have been trying to think of a skid something like you mention for short drag from the truck to gravely water edge. it seems a pain with the wheels when the ground is so level. something I could just stick the nose in as I drag it out of the truck saving from gouging into the ground drag it to the water edge and slip into on the way back sounds perfect. I guess if it fit good enough fit, it could just stay in place with the tie-in .
trying to imagine what it looks like

Interesting, Thank you for the pic's, explanation and heads up on the Sea Ginseng.

How do you cook them?  What do they taste like if you don't mind me asking...
They don't look to pleasing to the eye sitting in the sink.
Looks like something Mr. bear left in the yard!
Thanks

Is it a 13?

Didn't Hobie make the 11' Revo in 08? I don't know, just asking?

Frisco's a little out of my neck of the woods or I'd be interested if its a 13'

Thanks

I am wondering about the Hobie Revo 13...looks like the layback peddle paddling could be a back breaker for a bad back...looks Little to laid back position...
Ben

WTTM!
Really bad lower back here since a car wreck back in 1987.
I have the Revo and the Adventure.
Doesn't make my back any worse.
It's actually a bit better than paddling because of the lack of twist on the lower torso.

Thanks for the tip Tote,
I think Im gonna try and make the Invite by Jbaker @ Whiskytown next weekend and tryout the Demo pedal boats they have.
Ah yes the twist, I know what you mean there.
Thanks again,
Ben

"Ground fishing" i like that. Me and my son pretty much move from hunting season to mining season to fishing season. We do a lot of prospecting downhere in the motherlode area. With the lakes and rivers down here so low we have been finding some really good gold. We even mix our activities and use the kayaks to get to some good mining spots and haul our gear. What part of trinity county are youfrom. I grew up in Hayfork and have spent a lot of time in that area

Hey Scooter

You probley Know Russ at Bananabelt? there was a fella down-on-his luck, Box and Shovelin last year I think on East Weaver Creek...Russ and another seen this fella bring over a pound of gold in one shovel full... banking it..Nice stuff BUTT, and I mean BUTT... he mentioned it in the diggins...no more diggins for him...got a little to crowded on the creek...

Did you know Jerry Clement? he used to metal detect on Hayfork Creek. he showed me some nice nuggets from hayfork..I guess were ok talking about this here... it is Ground Fishing.
That sounds like fun using the kayak to carry your gear.

I lived on New River and sniped with my wet suit top and mask and gear and use to do pretty good at times...
Im about a mile east of Cedar Flat hwy 299 now on the Trinity.
Good luck to ya Scooter,

And thanks again for all the welcomes, this is a real cool forum, Im hooked on reading the posts, and cant wait to see all those decked out boats at the GS8...

Welcome to the Madness Ben, I am just down the hill from you in Redding, there is a good size group of us here. Watch the hookups, we fish almost every weekend, look forward to seeing you on the water.
Jeff

Thanks, CodZilla,  however I dont know where the "HOOKUPS" post  are located?

Welcome. I grew up in trinity county and go back all the time, its awesome up there

Ah yes Scooter,,, I moved down here from Oregon at 17 in 1980, it a great place to survive, Mining, Fishing, Gardening got the coast about a hour away and the lakes to the east with trails in between...Not to hot like Redding but warmier than the coast...
I also do some ground fishing...Nugget hunting.

Looks like they are gonna drain the Trinity lake this year...according to the paper, between the spring releases and water pumped south, Might not even be able to float a kayak this fall.
Hope to see you folks on the lakes fishing some time.
Ben

General Fishing Tips / Re: BSS4 ; Bass Fishing HELP !
« on: April 23, 2014, 11:53:52 PM »
We've been spanking the smallies up north here using Gitzit in a greenish/brown color...fish really slow, super slow, pull/jerk up like you would think a crawdad would be movin, then rest for a few seconds, change up the timing...most fish are caught in about 10 to 25 ft from the bank...also a small Brown or Black feathered homade jig under a bobber about 6ft if theres a little chop on the water...got to be quick with the set though with this setup, they hit and spit real quick...
Have to almost run setting the hook because of all the slack line...On Shasta I've also spanked them with little rattle trap minnow mid range diver, casting almost to the bank with herky jerky retrieve. we use the same Gitzit on Shasta as well.
Dosent seem to matter pre during or post spawn they love the Gitzit! why that color? when its not really a crawdad match? dont know.
On Shasta My buddy was drifting minnows, but I flat out spanked em with the rattle trap...I found one Brand that the rattle fish was flat on both sides with a blue streak and looked like it had about 10 BBs in it...flat out smoked em on Shasta on that unit. while he hardly got a bit with drifting his minnows.

On Trinity lake about a week ago a friend caught the biggest fish of the day about a 4 1/2 pound-er with a live crawdad in its throat..somehow he also sollowed the Getzit and it passed the Crawdad down the gullet...what a little Pig that Smally was.

Trinity Lake seems to be in full on spawn...we stopped fishing for a few weeks.

Introductions / Me FoulHooker Intro
« on: April 23, 2014, 09:55:28 PM »
FoulHooker, as in fishin...Keep'er clean...

From Trinity County Calif.
I've Hooked around some... Mad R, Smith R, Trinity R, Trinity Lake, Sac R. Shasta L, Humboldt, Trinidad, Crescent City,  some in Oregon...Tilamook bay, Clackamas, Willamatte, Colombia, Sandy...and few between, expert in None... had some Big fun on some, Mostly Bank and Motor Boat...Used to have a Boss that had a 26ft Whaler out of CC..That was fun, it had a commercial license... lots of lings, Lots of Fun...I made a jig that drives the lings crazy...

Wanting to get the Humboldt Halibuts dialed in for sure, that's my first aim..well after a Fishing Kayak. Doh!

Looking for my first Fishing Kayak..thinking about a Good crossover that I can use in the Lake, River and defiantly Humboldt/Trinidad Bay halibut/lings and the like ...so far thinking along the lines of either a OC Trident 13 or Hobie Revo 13
something I think I can still cruse for the bass on Trinity or Shasta lake but comfortable for at least the bay's and still be able to carry on a small pickup.
Just missed the loaded Mendo Craigslist Trident 13...Ah Crapola!!
I am wondering about the Hobie Revo 13...looks like the layback peddle paddling could be a back breaker for a bad back...looks Little to laid back position...I know DEMO first...

Great info on this and the Bro site NWKA...Ive learned so much by just reading the posts I really appreciate all the Info.
Very Cool people and info from the posts I've read thank you...And Spell check Too! Thank  Goodness...

Would have just preferred staying a lurker but I couldn't use the search option... so I registered...Now I gotta post just to get back in on the board's and check out the other members only areas... It works Polepole..Thanks

Thanks People,
Fish On!!!
Ben
