It is hard to beat HMB for the best "beginner " spot. First off is there is no breaking waves to deal with.  Next is fishing is not that far away.  Another big plus is... there is actually lots of life there. The rockfish are not usually big there, but sometimes the bigger lingcod, halibut, and salmon move in.

Bolinas is Not a good beginner spot.

Another west sacramento Yaker here. I mostly hit the beaches and bay. I fish the lakes and delta when it going off! It's hunting season now,so not much fishing until spring.  Welcome aboard

They will never ban them. Just like they temporarily closed abalone season.

He could be there checking out spots for Saturday's duck opener.

Nice write up!
With my thrilling Thresher experience last weekend, I'm thinking of targeting them, but have mixed feelings about it. Such a cool fish that I'm not sure whether I'd want to eat one, and I wouldn't want to damage one. But the fight is amazing.
that will c hange once that steak comes off the bbq.

Don't use any detergents, just rinse in fresh water.  Try using some bicycle/yoga tights underneath.

Keep on driving if halibut is your target. South of Richmond Bridge is where the odds turn in your favor.

Kayaks / Re: First boat - freshwater, mostly flat?

In my case , I was given an old, tandem.  It was a terrible  boat. It was not stable, it didn't track  very well.  After about 1 hour my ass would start to hurt.  The storage was lacking.  It was exactly what I needed.  I learned a lot. I went out and got an outback. And have been happy ever since. I was lucky and I didn't have to waste money on a inferior boat.

Craftsmen's Corner / Shop that "welds" plastic?
« on: April 26, 2023, 10:43:15 PM »
I have a friend that was given a plastic duck boat. It has a 24" Crack in the bottom. It looks like it's been dragged also. Does anyone know a repair guy/shop that does this kind of work? He is in sacramento, but will travel to get it fixed.

General Talk / Re: Net Considerations

It's OK to gaff salmon. It is easier said than done in a kayak. Larger ones will break your heart. I net every fish over 10#s now. Halibut, lines etc. Get the gaff.

How was the water quality?  Muddy, stained? Temp? Thanks for reporting.
