Wanted To Buy / WTB Yakima "Big Catch" kayak saddles
« on: September 08, 2020, 05:25:35 AM »
Hello, I'm looking to see if anyone has a set of the Yakima "Big Catch" kayak saddles they no longer use and are willing to sell?  I'm outfitting a utility trailer to carry a couple of kayaks and they are rated strong enough to carry my Outback.  Thank You.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Keel guard for Outback
« on: March 17, 2020, 02:03:54 PM »
Been thinking of trying to preserve the life of my Outback by installing some type of keel guard.  I've read some of the previous discussions on this topic but didn't see any experiences with a keel protector sold by "One Objective."  Curious if anyone is using this product or has heard any feedback.  There is one youtube video where it was used on a 2019 Outback.

Thanks.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Nocqua battery 10 Ah
« on: February 29, 2020, 05:39:58 AM »
Curious if anyone is using the Goal Zero solar panels to charge their Nocqua battery on multiple day fishing trips?  Nocqua sells the cable adapter for the Goal Zero panels.  If you are, which model panels and how does it work?

Thanks.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Fish finder battery
« on: February 14, 2020, 06:14:40 AM »
Hello,  Just looking for advice on which battery I should purchase for powering a fish finder.  Have seen several brands (Nocqua, Dakota, Hobie etc) out there and reviews seem to be mixed.

Thanks.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Anchor line reel
« on: February 05, 2020, 11:34:13 AM »
Hello,

Trying to figure out a way to spool up my yak anchor line on some type of reel.  Looked at the various scuba diving reels but they seem too small to handle enough anchor line that will support an 8lb mushroom.  Ive seen the traditional extension cords wind up device, but want to minimize the size and clutter on my kayak.  My thought is to eventually connect the reel to some type of quick release buoy and throw it overboard while I'm anchored.

I'm sure someone smarter than me has figured something that works good.

Thanks.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Fishing rod float or leash?
« on: February 04, 2020, 06:11:05 AM »
Haven't lost a rod and reel overboard yet (knock on wood), trying to decide if I should put a leash on my rods, styrofoam wraps, or both on my rods when I'm fishing on the Yak. I've experimented with both and each have their pros and cons in my limited experience.

Curious if one is better than the other, each seem to require you to adjust how you fish, or affect the performance of the rod/reel.

Thanks for the input.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Downrigger line change
« on: February 04, 2020, 05:52:47 AM »
About to purchase a downrigger for my Outback and have read some information about people changing the traditional wire cable to a braided version.  Has anybody made the switch, and do you recommend?  Ive read that it tracks smoother in the water and you get less vibration.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Mounting accessories
« on: January 31, 2020, 05:32:31 AM »
Hello there,

Just curious about mounting accessories.  I have a 2020 Outback and getting ready to mount things like rod holders, mini downrigger, and soon a fish finder.  In addition to the track mounting plates, my Hobie has the H rail system.  Question is how secure is the track system and should I mount my accessories on the H rail system when available instead of the track system?  Seems like there is a little flex on the track system with any decent load.

Thanks for your input.

Safety First / VHF radio or not?
« on: January 30, 2020, 04:17:02 AM »
As a new kayaker, trying to decide if I need to invest in a VHF radio in case of an emergency or for communication while out on the water.

Curious on your thoughts on it, and any recommendations as to which features are important;  battery life, # of watts, GPS etc...

Thanks for your time.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Which fish finder are you using?
« on: January 29, 2020, 02:12:45 PM »
Hello there,

In the processing of outfitting my new 2020 Hobie Outback.  Want to make good use of the retractable transducer plate.  Which fish finder do you recommend?  I will be fishing mainly freshwater, local lakes and delta.  Looking at Lowrance Elite Ti2-7 and Hook 2-7.  Thoughts and experiences, and any other FF recommendations.

Thanks.
