For Sale / Combo and Rods For Sale
« on: March 03, 2021, 03:04:46 PM »
I'm selling some rods and a combo. First up is a medium powered spinning bass rod and a right handed only reel. I got this for $130, thinking about selling it for $60 + shipping. It has only been used a handful of times. Next is a 8'2" Lamiglas medium powered trolling rod, this will NOT sell with the reel it is pictures with. I got it for $110 so I'll let it go for $50+ shipping, it was my main trolling rod last year so it has been used a decent amount. Finally is a Shimano TDR trolling rod, I'll sell this for $15 by itself, or $10 if sold with another one of the rod/combo I am selling. I would prefer someone to pick these up. however I am willing to ship them. Shoot me a message, I might be willing to negotiate or trade, thanks!

Places to Launch and Camp / Boat-In Kayak Camping Destinations
« on: January 20, 2021, 12:05:33 PM »
Hey everyone, I tried searching this topic and only found really old posts without many comments. I really love camping at boat in sites with my kayak. It gives an opportunity to hang out with friends, fish, and eat good food. I have kayak camped at both Tomales Bay and at Lake Sonoma and had a really good time at both. Both locations are boat in only camping, so I had the feeling of seclusion. I wanted to share this, and also see if anyone else wanted to share other great locations for kayak camping, specifically boat in spots, although I don't mind if you list non boat in sites.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Advice on cleaning reels
« on: June 11, 2020, 04:05:11 PM »
I've had most of my reels about a year now and probably need to get them cleaned. I want to start learning to clean them myself, but am I little intimidated with all the small pieces and reassembly. Anyone have any advice or references to videos or articles on this topic?

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Broken fish finder. Thoughts?
« on: May 15, 2020, 10:53:54 PM »
So I got about 2 years use from this Raymarine Dragonfly pro 7, off my kayak. In the last month or so it has been working only occasionally. I noticed some corrosion where the wires make contact with the fish finder itself. I took it to my local westmarine, the guy there said to use baking soda and water to fight against the corrosion, which actually helped for a while. Today though I tried to power it on and it would not work. I looked and noticed one of the pins were missing, it appears it has snapped off and is logged into the wiring. I assume this happened because of the corrosion. What do ya'll think, has this ever happened to any of you? Do any of you ever wash this connection spot with fresh water after fishing in saltwater, I feel maybe i should start to do this? I'm going to get in contact with ray marine as soon as I can. Looking at maybe getting a lowrance hook to replace, anyone have any experience with this unit?

Craftsmen's Corner / Broken plastic piece

So the little peg that locks down my fish ruler managed to break when I dropped it a couple days ago. What do y'all think is the best fix, crazy glue? Marine sealant?

Hey everyone, so I've been targeting halibut out of tomales bay, launching at Miller's. Been going 2 to 3 days a week for the past 3 weeks. Halibut are being caught out there, most days I go multiple people are taking butts home. Live bait and frozen bait seem to be the ticket with a few being caught on swim baits. Yesterday was an exception though, fishing was very slow, barely saw any live bait and didn't see anyone taking anything home. 6/22 was really good, saw at least 10 legal sized halibits being taken home by people. I was able to hook up on a 50lb bat ray and caught a spiny dogfish (didnt even know they were in tomales). Kind of bummed, no halibut after 8+ trips out there in the last 3 weeks, but hey, that's fishing.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / 3rd rod and reel ideas
« on: June 25, 2019, 11:34:09 AM »
Hey everyone, so I've been fishing with a diawa lexa on a ML trevala and a battle 600 on a MH pen rod. Been thinking about getting a second conventional rod and reel, maybe one more dedicated for trolling as I already have a great jigging rod reel. Was thinking about getting a Penn squall. Really not sure what rod to get. Is having a rod reel combo dedicated for trolling a good idea? I mainly fish for halibut salmon and lingcod. Total noob, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Introductions / New member, 1st post, Hi everyone!
« on: May 28, 2019, 01:14:51 PM »
Hello, my name is Drew Petzel. I live in Sebastopol, California right now, although I will be moving to Sacramento soon for school. I have been Kayak fishing for about 7 months now. About a month and a half ago I returned my previous kayak to REI, after having some issues with it and the pedal drive I ordered for it. I am now the proud owner of a 2019 Hobie Outback. I love fishing for Lingcod/Rockfish out of Timber Cove, or Stillwater Cove if I have a friend to help me get my Kayak over the rocks. I regularly crab at Doran Beach as well. I am a terrible bass fisherman, but still enjoy spending time at Lake Sonoma, attempting to hunt them down. I am going to start targeting salmon very soon, and halibut as well, both I have yet to catch. I have not had anyone with fishing experience in my life to teach me, therefore I have spent countless hours watching kayak fishing videos (Moo Moo outdoors, Fisherman's life, Die Hard Fishing, Product reviews, ect...). Unfortunately none of my friends will join me Kayak Fishing. I am hoping to meet some people one this website I can regularly fish with. Hopefully I can meet some Kayak Anglers who fish the Sacramento River as well, as I will be relocating there in late August. I have met many NCKA members in person, all have been very friendly and welcoming, encouraging me to join the website. Looking forward to meeting and hitting the water with everyone!
