General Talk / Anyone know what this plug could power?
« on: June 13, 2021, 11:15:24 PM »
Just bought a used kayak and found this cable zip tied to the mount but can't figure out what it would power.  Theres already a fishfinder thats hooked up with a different power cable as well as transducer that goes straight to the fishfinder so can't figure out what this would go into. Any thoughts on what else people usually use a power cable for in their kayaks?

General Talk / Lost Hobie Mirage Drive - Alameda Rock Wall
« on: May 26, 2020, 03:52:18 PM »
Hey all, was at Alameda over the weekend, did anyone see or find a set of hobie mirage drive?  has turbo fins.  I was packing up my stuff in my car and someone came by to ask me about the fishing and got distracted.  I may have left it on the wooden fence area at the back of the parking spots.  By the time i realized and turned around i did not see it there anymore.

Any help is appreciated!

General Talk / Anyone fish near 17 mile drive in Monterey?
« on: May 30, 2019, 10:16:42 AM »
Planning to take the wifey a trip down there this weekend and planning to just park off some shore / rocky areas to throw my line out.  Anyone have any recommendations of fishing spots here?  Or any info of where is it ILLEGAL to fish please let me know as well.  Im a bit confused by some of the maps of where you're allowed to fish/not fish so this would be helpful.

I also found this link below which seems to show you can fish along the coast of Asilomar Reserve area but the area is marked in Red in the DFG site, so unsure if I can or cannot fish here: http://wiki.recfin.org/index.php/Category:Recreational_Fishing_Sites_Monterey_214

General Talk / Lost crab trap, any penalty?
« on: May 28, 2019, 11:47:35 AM »
Went on skiff in Santa Cruz and dropped a crab pot ~2 miles away from the wharf.  Went to go pick it up at the end of the day but the weather got super choppy and dangerous and had to turn around.  Are there any penalties for not picking up the crab pot?  Its got my license and phone number on it.

Thinking about making a trip out there on a kayak to pick it up later this week.

General Talk / Buying first Hobie, any tips?
« on: June 24, 2018, 10:16:40 PM »
Hello, currently own an ocean kayak frenzy and planning to jump to a hobie kayak.  The model im looking at is the hobie mirage sport since it's similar in size to the frenzy ( 9'7" and ~ 58 lbs) since i plan to carry it myself to various beaches.

I plan to ocean fish with it, any tips of anyone using this in the ocean or any concerns i should watch out for when buying this kayak?  Im looking to buy for ~$1200 for a used 2009 model.  Not sure if that's a good deal but that's my budget.  I believe it comes with just the standard fins.  Appreciate any feedback!

Just bought an Ocean Kayak Frenzy and have never gone kayaking before.  Any good recommendations in the Bay Area to practice fishing?  I drove down the 1 last week and saw a nice beach where someone was kayaking at Big Basin Redwoods State Park Beach.  Im considering going there and practice re-entry while droppingf a few crab traps.

I also goto Half Moon Bay jetties from time to time to fish, can I just launch my kayak anywhere on the Harbor side or does it have to be from a specific part of the harbor?  Also, are there any rules or regulations on where to launch and if I need to have anything on me other than a license if I plan to fish?  Basically a newbie thats going in blind into the kayaking game :)
