Seeking Recommendations - Pizmo Beach Area - Labor Day 2022

Hi All!

I'll be in Pizmo Beach Area for Labor Day weekend. Any of you care to share with me where the best place is to launch my yak and where some productive fishing grounds may be?

All tips are welcome and thank you in advance!

Hey!  I visited that area for the first time this past May.  Very cool coastal features, and it seemed more Nor Cal than other So Cal places I've been, that's for sure.  I didn't have a kayak or SUP with me, so I only checked it out as we did touristy things from the car.

In Morro Bay itself, there appear to be plenty of places to launch along the local roads.  Someone else may have input on where to launch.  I saw some local kids launching SUP's right off the State Park road just south out of Morro Bay.  Halibut are a possibility in the bay, but you'll need to learn where the off-limits areas are - I think mostly up farther in the estuary.

The real hotspot that's relatively close to Morro Bay is Montana De Oro - a state park just to the south, past Los Osos.  Spooner Cove is the spot to launch and land, but only on good forecasts - it's wild coastline both north and south.

It turns out I was "misinformed" about where I'll be staying. I'll actually be in Oceano/Pizmo Beach area. I'm currently researching:

Pizmo
Avila Beach
Point San Luis

my son and I camped there last year for surf fishing...unfortunately the sea weed mobbed the beach our entire visit.  We stayed at Gaviota, near the closed pier. People were launching from the beach, looked do able, but did not have the kayaks with us

Its dated but the calfishing site has many reports and tips from that area. The founder/owner Rob was a UCSB or Cal Poly guy

Avila Beach
Point San Luis

Avila is very launchable, protected from the north/nw.  Pismo/Oceano is a little more difficult its a very shallow beach so it has some shore break.

There a number of spots in the Cayucos/Cambria area but you'll need to head north.
For Pismo area specifically, I'd focus on Avila. I know its been good to kayakers in the past.

another vote for avila.  Roadside parking along the highway.  There's a small craft driveway that you can drive your boat down and drop off, then park.  Have only been cpl times but seemed super protected.
