General Talk / Shark encounter-Timber Cove
« on: July 14, 2017, 03:02:54 PM »
**The following is not a joke or a story- it happend today. I am embarrassed by my behavior to be frank! Never the less I believe sharing a good lesson learned supersedes my ego!

So! Today I took my buddy out to Timber Cove for lingcod, an area I fish regularly. I've been trying to convince him he should get a yak and fish the ocean with me! This went over like a fart in church... The ocean was flat, things looked good ect. But I could not shake this anxious, nervous feeling! So in the true spirit of a fisherman.... I went out anyway.  I drifted threw the shelf back and forth. Then....bump? Something hit the bottom of my boat. Interesting? Yep cool-keep fishing! At this point i didn't think much of it. Shortly after this  I headed back in to let my buddy use my yak. Got to the beach-lingcod Mike said nope-not feeling it! Alright well shit, round two. At this point- I was able to "connect" with the ocean you know relax, slow my heart rate, enjoy the salty air! So I go back to the same area (DUMB) that I got bumped. Cast and just about fell out of my boat. Two sharks breached the water as a wave picked them up. There was no mistaking this! They were probably 13-15ft in 60 fow.  I got the f**k out as quick as I could. As I was leaving I had an realization! I ignored all the signs!!

1) intuition
2) intuition! bonehead!
3) all the fish I was catching an hour ago were gone on my fish finder! Not marking ANY FISH ANYWHERE?
4) there were at least 30 seals on a small rock that had large waves crashing on it. All sitting up obviously alert. 1 hr earlier-no seals on the rock...

Got back to beach-safe! Daddy, husband and myself are making it home safe beside my own stupidity! Thank you-creator, Jesus, god. shark gods, all of you THANK YOU!

Moral of the story- pay attention specifically to YOURSELF.. I hope folks can use this as an aframation should anyone find themselves in a situation in life! Listen to yourself...

Aside from all the excitment, I plan to fish Tomales shark infested waters tomorrow. I do not believe in living in fear... but one should be intelligent enough pay attention, specifically when you are given several opportunities. Again embarrassing! ! "Here's your sign..."

Lastly I do not have any pictures, I was terrified! And for those I know there's a few.... I got 1 nice canary and three blacks. No lingcod.

This post would not be complete without adding a hookup!! Plan is to get out with some fellow anglers tommorrow, anyone going after the flatties? If so, let me know I plan on being there early, 5:30am? Hope this post helps!  Pm me, post or or channel 16 OTW!

Look forward to meeting new fishing buddies!

General Fishing Tips / Fishing for kids? Bay Area?
« on: August 31, 2016, 06:43:57 PM »
Fellow NCKA'ers I took my kids 6 & 8 yrs old. camping at Lake Oroville (they brought their kayaks) and we fished a little for nada! My daughter castes really well! I was impressed!! I Would like to get my kids out and more time OTW... Do it right start them young...they've been here and there but I saw that light in there eyes at Oriville and am hoping that this is something we can share together!! So.....I am looking for a place to take them were they can be resonbily catch a few fish. They don't care bout the size. Maybe a good bluegill/crappie spot. Eventually I would like to graduate to bringing my kids out to San Pablo or tomales for stripes or halibut.  I want to share the experience of "gathering food" from the wild and eating it. This is something I believe in, we need to instill in our children. We raise all of our meat, kids help butcher ect..and I am proud to raise my children with this. We teach them to be kind to the animals, they out are food... When I hear about kids who think milk, fish or meat come from Safeway, that is sad!! Maybe I should change the name of this post, lol.

Any pointers? Places? Species? I am located in Petaluma, this will be a Sunday family trip kinda thing... Trying to keep it under an hour drive?
My daughter has asked several times to go fishing with me.

THANK YOU!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Transducer mount in dry box
« on: June 11, 2016, 01:27:01 PM »
This is something, I think? I came up with? And it works. I cut the bottom of the dry box siliconed it down and then put a small dab of silicone to hold the transducer down, less chance for air bubbles. Notch the lid so you can run wire out. Your good! Fill it with water Dosent leak, no bubbles ect. It's worked for me. Hope this helps someone.

« on: June 06, 2016, 10:35:23 PM »
Gentlemen.... and ladies!
I am new to yak fishing...and I am addicted! Live in Petaluma, fish the mostly the coast, looking for someone to fish with. I got a buddy but he's always got an excuse. Me I call in sick to go out, if the waters right. I know how to fish, just new to the yak fishing experience. I bought a tarpon 140 camo, got a hook 4x fishfinder I just installed and am looking to expand my horizons! My tarpon will probably be for sale within the next month 😁, Just had to through that in there... I gotta get a Hobie! Anyway... I'm pretty chill and next to shooting ducks, fishing... On a kayak now is my thing!

This maybe my 3rd post didn't see it show up? Last try...

General Talk / Newbie gotta ling spot
« on: June 06, 2016, 10:10:42 PM »
So I got a pretty decent spot north of Jenner fished it twice for limits. Big fish 12lbs 31". Lost a monster! No net... I know now, rookie move! I am looking for a buddy possibly to trade info/spots with? Or even just to fish with? I'd rather not post a location of other yakers "spot" to the world but understand you gotta give a little... Message me if your intrested, you may already know this spot but I found something that works really well.
