General Talk / Re: Peace and lead

Working in tech I am all too familiar with the schedule demands you describe. Coming off a break-up of a 9-year relationship and what might be a relaxed schedule for a bit - I'm hoping to get the kayak gear into serviceable shape and get out on the water for the first time in a long time. I smell Doran crabbing on the horizon. Too bad camping spots are so tough to get.

Those are some spiffy sinkers - looking good!

Wanted To Buy / Make $100 ferrying a pakage from Morro Bay
« on: August 19, 2023, 12:20:37 PM »
Looking for someone coming North to Bay Area to ferry a package from an auto parts supplier in Morro Bay. 6 ft long and about 120 lbs. UPS wants about $200 and I thought maybe someone would want to pick up $100 if they're coming this way anyway? So we each come out $100 ahead. Anytime in the next few weeks but needs picked up in MB during M-F biz hours.

A +1 from here on the MDX. I have a 2006 with maybe 150K. I haven't towed with it but I'm  looking for a hitch now to pull my boston whaler. Ride great. Reliable. Decent mileage.

A little PSA since I happen to be here reading. Lat year our garage door stopped opening. There's an 8 ft threaded screw rod and when it turns it pulls the door open or closed.  Called a garage door company who did a site visit - "Absolutely cannot be fixed. New opener at $1,800 but we recommend the upgrade at $2,200." Yeah, unless you check Amazon and see you can get the replacement part for under 20 bucks and under 10-20 minutes to install. (10 mins for a normal folk - 20 for me). + about $80 for the wasted service call. Maybe this will help someone one day....

I don't know Steph but am saddened to hear of the sudden illness, and at the same time warmed by the outpouring of support.

Where are donations being collected?

Not sure whether this is the best forum - but it's kind of a hook-up  :smt002. I reserved Wright's Beach spot WB06 six months ago for this Fri/Sat/Sun. I need to let it go and will cancel it in a couple hours unless someone wants an impromptu spot. I paid $143.

For Sale / Free Wetsuits
« on: January 27, 2017, 09:50:02 AM »
I have two older dive suits. One is Excel large. Kinda beat on and not as stretchy as it was. Still workable but too tight for me at 175 lbs. Under 170 you should be good.

Next up a SeaQuest from my younger and smaller days. Med Large. Under 160 lbs for this one. It was perfect when I was 158. Not beat up, but noticibly stiffer than back in the day. Both were very warm for me and have excellent Ab juju. Either suit should be OK for occasional ab diving.

I need these gone this weekend. Text me at

General Fishing Tips / Re: Homemade Crawdad Traps?

Caught a buttload of tasty critters off the rock levy along Steamboat Slough last weekend. Also paddleboard trolled for zilch salmon.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Homemade Crawdad Traps?
« on: September 27, 2016, 11:59:07 PM »
I've made traps out of galvanized hardware cloth before. Just rolled into a tube about 2 ft long. Bends over wires to lace it together. Cut a three-sided door in the tube. Then role cones for the inserts on the end. In fact I was just thinking about doing exactly this when I saw traps on Cabela's 9.99 or something. That's a hard price to beat unless you're going to make a boatload of traps.

Anyone want to PM me a crawdad hole in the Delta?

Thx. Ross

Thanks for the report. I've followed Marin terns a few times in the past month for nada. Sooner or later I'll hit some schoolies under there. The Brickyard has been slow for me too... but should be on. Maybe my timing is off.

Hey Rich;

I just read of your saga. We don't cross paths much, but you're one hell of a guy. Hang in there buddy.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! Looks kinda bleak, will check these places out.

Find a WalMart.

Unfortunately California isn't Walmart camper friendly - the Walmarts I've checked out lately say they frown on overnighters b/c of a California law.
did you check marina walmart?  I was in the area a couple weeks ago and there were at least two trailers parked there at 11pm.

Will call today!
