I use larger sized jars, so it lasts longer 😍
Almost 3lb jars - $25
Almost 2 lb jars - $20
Smaller, 11 oz honey jars -$10

Victor, can I donate a jar to the raffle?

I was trying to find more info on the new crabbing requirements that went into effect in November - anyone have good links on those? I've been reading through this one:
https://wildlife.ca.gov/Fishing/Ocean/Regulations/Sport-Fishing/Invertebrate-Fishing-Regs#crustaceans

I did get the crab trap validation (it might not have been needed, but it was only $2.42) and it looks like red buoys are needed? Getting all my supplies out next weekend!

This was a fantastic resource - thank you!!!

General Fishing Tips / Best Way to Repair Poly Neeting on a Crab Trap?
« on: January 16, 2022, 10:40:21 PM »
I was getting all my gear out today for Crabfest and noticed I have one hoop net with some tears/openings in the poly netting. What is the best way to fix this? Zip ties maybe?
I tried to find some poly netting repair line, but it seems to already come in "net form" instead of a handy short roll. Any tips?

Thanks!

Super excited about the event! I think this will be my 8th one...Victor will have to confirm, haha. We will be in site #108 like usual.
Anyone else coming into Doran on Monday 1/24 or Tues 1/25? If yes, want to caravan along the route? I typically cut through Rio Vista, Suisun City, Petaluma to Bodega Ave, Valley Ford, and then into the park.

Since there will not be a formal potluck, stop by my site for a piece of carrot cake during lunch!

Apparently, you need to watch for a buoy if you head out to Bodega...

General Talk / Re: Help Change Generator Hours at Doran!
« on: January 30, 2020, 11:23:18 PM »
After reading through the posts, it was apparent that 1) there are many types of camping expectations and 2) there are many folks who actually like the 8pm cut-off time. This was a bit surprising! Im super curious as to how many were camping in tents and how many were camping in trailers.

For me, if I am in the wilderness and dry camping - absolutely, I'm there to escape and enjoy nature. I unplug and get back to a simpler way of life. No power needed.

If I'm camping in a parking lot (which really, is what Doran is), in January - Im using the trailer and yes, absolutely using the Honda generator when there is no shore power (for those of you who talked about the cheaper, noisier generators - I agree, those are just plain awful).

What many don't realize, is that some folks typically have to work while camping in order to get the time away at all. Who would want to be stuck inside a trailer working during the day working, when they could do it from 8-10pm that night? Im here to enjoy the day, exploring the area....and my trade off is that I sometimes have to spend the evenings (after dinner) on my computer.

I don't think that asking for generators to be turned off at 10pm (as the "quiet time") is unreasonable. Later than that, yeah, I would agree is too late.

Salty, I get what you are saying - when I am camping in the wilderness, I don't like to feel as if I'm still in town and can't enjoy the nature around me. But when I camp in a trailer and in a parking lot (which, for all intensive purposes, is what Doran is), I need to be able to run my generator. Not all night, and not past 10pm, which seems very reasonable.

When Im away and camping, I have no intention of staying in the trailer all day and not enjoying the area just so I can charge my equipment...that would defeat the purpose of exploring the exciting stuff around us. To me, this is what the evening hours are for, or when we are "home" and back at the camp ground. We also don't play loud music and try to be really respectful of others and the thin walls of tents (we dont have one of those cheap generators that can be pretty noisy).

It's important to recognize that 1) people might have to do work while they are traveling, so they can be away to camp, and they can take the days off they need. This means being able to use a generator if shore power isn't available. 2) People might have medical needs that require some power access, and a portable generator might be the only option.

You can't always control who you camp next to, so it's about being reasonable. Im not ready to be tucked into bed at 8pm, but give me until 10pm, and I can make it work.

Generators at Doran Beach - Update!

Great event!
As a first timer was really impressed with the level of organization, POT LUCK and raffle prizes. Great Job VWool and family!

RE Generators: I have to say I'm on the complete opposite spectrum as PakehaCherie and find generators and loud music of others to be out of place in a campground, noise pollution you can't block out. I'm moraly, ethically, philosophically and any other "lly" opposed to bringing your house camping with you.

I have no problem with RVers all grouped together away from tent campers being allowed to run generators and the like until all hours but we're all there (well, I am at least) to disconnect from creature comforts and reconnect with nature and in a spot so near the water who wants to listen to someone else's motor running?
To me a big part of why I go camping is listening to the waves, the wind, the crickets! Not really there to hear your generator or listen to your favorite tunes.

I'm all for the restrictions and think that it's not a big deal to just plan ahead a bit and get all your charging done before 8PM is it?

My thoughts, don't want to be offensive or contrary, hmm, maybe I like being contrary a bit :smt003,  but I guess we all have our own preferences/priorities.  :smt005

This sounds like a great and fun event! I will check my calendar and see what we can do! I would love to participate, but need to make sure I can get the days off (starting a new job in a week).

General Talk / Help Change Generator Hours at Doran!
« on: January 29, 2020, 08:42:16 PM »
How many of you were surprised to learn that the Sonoma Parks had changed their generator hours this past weekend?

The camp hosts came around and knocked at our door, saying it had been changed about 6 months prior... I was about to jump in the shower of our trailer when they told us the new hours were now 8am to 8pm. We had planned on running our generator to charge our equipment from 8-10pm since we were gone all day!

While leaving, the incredibly sympathetic staff at the main booth encouraged us to contact the Regional Parks office. They told us that others had complained about the generators going until 10pm, so the county changed it.

The staff recommended that we share the contact info and to get as many people as possible to contact the parks office!
If there is enough polite and professional feedback about the current hours, we might be able to get them to change it. We are such a large forum, we could easily get thousands of calls/emails in to them (however, we need to be mindful and do not want to give a bad impression of NCKA or the event....).

Personally, I think we should be allowed to run generators from 7am to 10pm - this allows us time to catch-up on some computer work in the evening, charge equipment, and cook our crab!

Please consider contacting the Sonoma County Regional Parks, and let them know that as a long-time camper at Doran, you would like to see them change the generator hours and restore them to the 7am-10pm time frame. Let them know how it impacts you and your use of the camping facilities.

Contact them by email (which is probably best):

Trailer is packed, kayak is packed, carrot cake...I may need some help backing into our spot! The anticipated rain on Saturday will hopefully ease-off during the pot luck... We are all set, can't wait to be there!
