Went Sunday. Rumor has it that there are some salmon around the pier. I trolled Apex for a bit with totally no expectations. Gave up after snagging a few kelp.
My goal was really to catch halibut or big lingcod with live baits. Found some birds diving and got 10+ jacksmelts and a mackerel. My best bait catching so far. Slow trolling/ drifting the jacketsmelt near mile buoy with just one bite but not hooked. Switched to lighthouse area without much difference. Then decided to move closer to kelp bed where  I had some luck before. Caught a keeper lingcod soon after, just a bit over 22”, but my first live bait catch. So I would take that. Drift for another hour or so. Caught another lingcod almost the same size. After that, no more. Trolling back to see any luck on halibut but nada. The red  tide is still there. Probably give SC a break until the red tide recedes

Sounds like SC is very sharky recently. I also carry a shark shield and I turn around when it starts beeping. But it almost always run out of battery before I reach the harbor.

Never caught fish in Boca myself. But the little Truckee river flows looked good last month. I think it’s barbless C&R fly fishing only. Stampede Kokanee is still hot.

Good luck, guys. The bite was great last weekend. I got two days of limit, also released a few smaller ones. Fished 30 feet of water in the morning, drop a bit deeper when the Sun gets higher. Also places with breezes seem better than dead calm surface.

Launched this morning 6:30am. Caught 4 by 8:30. Trolling at opposite side of the lake from ramp, 50 feet behind with 3oz weight at 1.3 mph. That is about 30 feet deep. Caught the last one by the dam by 10:30. Most people got early limit by the dam. Pink hoochie worked the best for me. 4 fish are around 14”, one 12”.

Thanks for all the very helpful inputs. Hopefully I can catch my first Kokanee. Will give a report after.

I haven’t caught any Kokanee salmon. I am thinking to go try Stampede lake near Truckee. Appreciate any info regarding where to launch kayak and where to troll, etc.

I went out to SC again Sunday. The forecast was 3-4 feet swell. But 3 guys on the kayak got really sea sick and had to end the trip early. I started fishing SC last August. When the forecast was 3’ to 4’ from August thru December, the ocean was quite calm. But I have done 3 trips this year the last two months, a 3’ to 4’ forecast feels more like 6’ to 8’. And it seems worse in the reef outside the lighthouse close to that small yellow buoy used to be. My theory is the reef rises sharply from 70’ to 50’. So if the swell is perpendicular to the reef, it creates bigger wave. Thoughts?
BTW, I only caught one RF but my friend caught a 34” halibut.

Fished the lighthouse area today. Got a lingcod about 27” and a few RF.
The swell seemed bigger than the forecasted 3’-4’

Nice!

I'm surprised about the swell on the west side, as I was at Pleasure Point at about 10:30 this morning (not fishing) and the swell looked small.

Good luck and hope to see your report. Plan to go this weekend if forecast holds.

Yes. I was in the lighthouse area. Didn’t recall seeing many kayakers there. I did answer a radio check call maybe around noon. But didn’t hear clearly what was said after that.

Got my kayak PB ling today. 26”, 7lb.
I believe I saw you by the lighthouse. I tried to call NCKA on Ch69 but no one answered.

Well done

There IS fish in SC. I usually fish the lighthouse area for rock fish and lingcod. Caught 8 RF and 1 shaker ling last Sunday. Lost a keeper ling, I think. Never saw it. Lots of snag though.
