That's it...
I'm liking this spot again as we are going to have people coming from all over and this offers the best logistics...
Hopefully we do better fishing wise, but again realized, this is first about getting these awesome people on the water... we will have other events soon,( Just heard from Kelsey Bass Ranch!!! :smt003 ) just want to get this year going and with new volunteers from the paper, this location would work best ....
I'm working on getting fees waived, but no promises...
this will be a smaller, earlier start event as I am contacting the vets personally as to get them there earlier and know more about their special needs. We probably will have Sunrise to help with some yaks, but I would still expect we need to bring yaks. I will also try to get a pontoon boat and expect we will have a few PB on the water for support and those vets who can not deal with a yak...
More later and Cisco...
I have your thermos and hat... sorry about your radio
-
in for kelsey for sure since its so darned close to home..i'll try to make it to Dead Valle
-
So far I have 7 confirmed wounded Vets that are stoked about getting out and starting early.... :smt004
-
I'll be there :smt006
-
I'll be there! Anything you need let me know! Frank
-
just talked with one of our new volunteers, who is also a kayakfisherman ( never heard of ncka before he heard of HOW...., how can that be?) anyway, he fishes Del Valle alot and he feels the bite should be great in February, :thumleft: :thumright:
as long as we don't get too much rain...
anyway, hopefully he will log on to the site soon, intro himself and dish out the tips!!! but, if nothing else, he will be at the event....
-
Don, I would be glad to help. Ideally, i would like to guide but can also cook or whatever you need. What paper do the new volunteers come from?
-
:smt006
After what I can only imagine these soldiers went through to get wounded, I suspect a little rain is nothing for them to handle now.
-
Don, I would be glad to help. Ideally, i would like to guide but can also cook or whatever you need. What paper do the new volunteers come from?
Dude!!! You should totally be " On The Water!!!!! " Lunch is going to be simple....
Hot dogs and what ever else is easy and no clean up... the volunteers I'm talking about came from us being on the front page of most of the Bay Area News papers.
I'm really hoping that a few of them can take over the food aspect, and if not, again, we will just do something easy...
Really appreciate the Herculean effort you put into the last 2 events,
Outstanding!!!!
This one, were going to focus on some fish, with a small lunch on the side,
I'm even saying that everyone should bring a snack or whatever it takes to get them through the morning....
What we did in the past was what we had to do. We needed to rely on the VA to bring us Vets and gain their trust and in doing so, we had to go big and be loaded for bear.
we did that and played to their bankers hours for fishing...
well, now we have contact info for Vets and can have a bit more control of how and when we want to start, and we are doing that.
I do believe we will have a few Larger events this year, but for this one, were just going to try and run it like a " Hook Up..."
-
I'll be there. Please dont hesitate to contact me if you need me to help in any way.
-
I'll help out again Don. 1 Extra yak and gear.
-
I'll help out again Don. 1 Extra yak and gear.
Thanks Rancin Rob!!!! :smt002
-
well folks count me in I am disabled but I got my own yak and this is very close to my home turf. loved the last event even tho I didn't catch any fish! I know we will do better this time. I will get there around 6 Am and i will need a little help getting my yak in the water. Just one question DO i need to bring food water or anything like that?
JerBear
-
Hey Jerry,
How you been? We'll get you to the water. Don't worry about that. As we get closer there will be more about what is needed from us. See you there.
Rob

Rob
Affirmative....
For now, I'm planning that all participants and volunteers will take care of themselves food wise for the morning, and we will have some sort of lunch afterwards.... but, if I get some of these other volunteers or other orgs... that want to help, maybe they will do something...
just keep tuned to this thread... :smt002
-
So what species will we be targeting?
I imagine trout would be the go to, but smb should be on the move too...
long range forecast looks like possibility of rain next week, hopefully not enough to muddy the water
-
whoa!!!
That was weird... I guess I " Moderated... " your post Jack....
Ahhh... The Power of being a " Moderator.... " :smt080
-
Trout sounds good !! I got my yaks rigged right so i can troll with the rod directly behind the driver on the centerline. It keeps the gear from cocking the boat to one side. Works well for trolling in the ocean. I also have the standard dual opposing rocket launchers for trolling 2 rods. If that don't pan out, I got powerbait and some good knock-knock jokes.
-
looking forward to next event. I still have to make sure I can make this one I will let you know asap thanks for holding to my thermoss no biggie about
radio. keep up the good work :smt006
-
i will look into my work and see if i can bale that day, i can prob get another hobie to.
-
I'll be there.
-
Just got the day off :smt004 so I will be there to lend a hand :smt006
Pat R
-
Thanks Guys!!!!
I better get some more Vets....
-
Hoping to make it this time for sure. See ya'll there.
-
Sadly I won't be able to make this event. :smt010 Wish I could be there to support your outstanding cause Don. I'll be relinquishing my man card and getting snipped. :smt010 :smt010
-
count me in again! :-))))))
-
Still on the fence but will try to be there.

Hey Everyone,
Just a quick update,,, so far I have 7 wounded warriors confirmed, the Warrior Transition Unit (WTU ) from Sacramento will be attending, they usually bring around 5... I would expect somewhere around 12 to 20... i think we have at least one bass boat and I'm going to work on a pontoon boat, maybe one of the new volunteers might be bringing a PB...
I'm also working on trying to delegate the food thing to some of the new volunteers who don't fish, but want to help... Again, this is going to be a simple lunch, hot dogs, whatever is easy,
I'm not sure how were paying for it, but we may need to feed around 30 to 40 people, I do have a $25 gift card and charcoal and some picnic items, but I think if we pitched in $5 each, that would probably cover it...
I'm working on getting the Park fees waived, I'm hopeful, but no promises, and no matter what happens, we have to pay the Quagga Muscle inspection... $3
We might have Sunrise to help us on kayaks, I need to go talk with Kim and will let ya all know how that goes, but being this is a focused fishing expedition...
I think it would be nice if we had kayaks that were set up for fishing, meaning we bring our own...
I have put out a half invitation to the VA, we'll see what they want to do... they might be helpful in some of the set up for food and stuff, and they might just want to bring some vets for just kayaking, and I will use the Sunrise fleet for that...
keep ya posted....

and maybe the VA could help with Lunch..... :smt003
We could use a few more....
we have 13 confirmed.... Thanks
-
I'm on the fence waiting for my new working schedule starting in February. I will know for sure by the end of this week.
-
if you need me i'll be there, just let me know.
-
Thanks sailfish and bmb...
you guys have been there from the start... if this is a stretch for ya... don't sweat it...
if all 12 here do show and we keep close to what we have here as participants...
we should be able to get it done...
-
I'm good to go.
-
I'm good to go.
Thanks Yester,,, Your on the list!!!
-
Hi All,
It looks as though the VA is going to back out of this one, so....
That Uncomplicates Things Mucho!!!
Just going to be a early start Kayakfising adventure with some active duty injured service men and women...
I think were good if everyone that said they can come, comes, but, we can always use more... kinda concern about the lunch thing.... always am :smt012
I'm planning that we are bringing our own extra kayaks, and we'll need around 12. I also have extra fishing rods/reels, most are in the medium heavy range. It would be nice to to have something a little on the lighter side. Maybe if ya set up a extra set up for the vet you'll be guiding. That would be perfect.
I will be talking with Kim at sunrise just in case we need something ( kayak / gear ) quick...
Keep ya posted.
-
Hey Don, i got 2 yaks complete with rods, paddles, pfds and tackle. If you need any help with the lunch thing, just let me know. i can help with that too.
-
Thanks Jack...
I might have a couple non-kayakfising volunteers who might take over the set up for lunch...
we'll still have to get and bring everything... I think, but they get it going while were out fishing....
That's the plan an anyway...
If you can think of a side dish for hot dogs, pre-made... easy throw away clean up etc... etc...
-
Don, I might have a couple of guys from the First Responders Group that may want to volunteer. Frank
-
Don, I might have a couple of guys from the First Responders Group that may want to volunteer. Frank
That's Kool, you have seen what we got going with the MPFA, I think at least one guy is confirmed to help...
do these guys want to help with fishing or lunch,... both..?
I really don't think lunch is going to be a big deal, we just need someone to get the coals going before we get back... I might be hanging on the shore anyway, just depends on what happens day of...
I'll call the the vets I have confirmed to see if they plan on bringing anyone with them... I would imagine family will be driving with them or another vet. Be good to have someone around to entertain them or help out with shore fishing or something...
-
I can work the shore and free up my barge Tarpon 13 Tandum for one of them to use.
-
I can work the shore and free up my barge Tarpon 13 Tandum for one of them to use.
probably going to need ya on the water... I think were going to have others to take care of shore duties,,,
I really expect this one to be a smaller, intimate affair... so will work it out as we go...
-
Don, with an early wintertime start, it would be cool to bring some firewood and have a nice campfire going. i got $20 to contribute to the lunch fund. I also might be able to talk my neighbor out of some of his firewood.
-

I can bring firewood. I have plies of Eucalyptus and some oak. Can we stay over the night before like last time? That would help out a bunch.
-
i will have one yak and gear for sure and maybe another yak. see you soon
-
I will bring a tandem, pot of chili and $20.
-
i would also like to suggest that we have some kind of hot-link or sausage in addition to the hot dogs. Costco sells the casper dogs in bulk and they also have hot-links. Both are quite tasty. I could bring a bunch of homemade salsa for the chips.
-

I was not planning on that, have to reserve and pay for it... I don't know if others are interested in camping,
I know it's a bit of a drive for ya. I'm back on " injured reserve... :icon_weelchairbb: "
don't think I will be camping, but enough are interested, I'll check into it.
-
i will have one yak and gear for sure and maybe another yak. see you soon
Thanks Yukon!!!
Does that mean you are bring 1 or 2 extra yaks?
-
I will bring a tandem, pot of chili and $20.
Thanks Scott!!!
You da Man, are you bringing a extra yak too?
-

That sounds good jack... I'll look into those hotlinks and stuff, probably do the costco run thing...
Love the salsa idea!!!
-
I'll be there. I have extra rods and reels if needed, can cook, clean or whatever is needed
-
I will bring a tandem, pot of chili and $20.
Thanks Scott!!!
You da Man, are you bringing a extra yak too?
It is easier for me to guide on the tandem. I can bring a single also if needed. My P15 and T15 are ocean boats so a bit of work to get all the sand and seaweed out of the hull. My 3rd paddle also needs minor repair. Let me know. BTW - I usually buy the Costco brand man dogs and they are very popular with da boyz.
-
Put me down for $20.00 and I can bring a couple of bags of chips if that will help, I will also bring an extra rod/reel, but don't have a extra yak :smt009.
Pat R

Here is the list of those said they are able to help ...
and I'm putting if your bringing a extra yak, I'm also just assuming that everyone is going to bring a extra fishing set up for their vet...
If ya bring more great... but don't go too crazy... I do have some set ups, most are just medium heavy though...
also logging if your brining some sort of food or supplies...
Extra yak food
1.Kayakjack 1 Salsa/chips
2.Bill

we have 17 confirmed.... Thanks
OK... Looks like were low on yaks....
I'll talk to Spike, better yet, Kayakjack... if you could follow up with the Master that would be Great......
Lets make sure he makes it... :smt002
GB2... if your bring your tandem, would you guide a vet on it? I do have one guy who has had recent hip surg, feels like he could handle it, but iffy.... no worries if that was not the intention of you bringing tandem, just curious... we'll work out something.... and if you feel it would be tough getting your yaks through Quagga... don't bring em....
Yukon... let me know if have a fishing yak you can bring....
I guess I really need to talk to Kim now, will do tomorrow
anyone else bringing yaks, let me know...
we will make this happen, so not to stress that we are lacking... so far I have 5 confirmed vets showing, I'm not sure what the WTU will bring, usually another 4... maybe more... so you can see, we are keeping this down a bit and should workout well....
Still would expect about 12 +/- day of the event....
Thanks Again Guys!!! Really... Your Giving up your day, make it all the way out there, Racinrob, Bigfoot... long haul all you others too...
gotta be a hour and half or more, gas, time off work... it's a big deal and I really appreciate all you guys are doing.....
Thanks!!!!!!!! :smt006
-
I have my Tandem and a couple trout rods.
-
Entry Fees, Launch Fees, Daily fishing Fees.....
Waived!!!! :white
Thanks EBRP!!!!
Still gotta pay $3 bucks for those Bloody Quagga Muscles.... :smt012

i am pretty swamped at work so i dont think i can make it, but if you can't get kim to pony up i could possibly drop off my revo in the morning if someone is willing to babysit it until i can pick it up (maybe james? temporarily? since its sort of on my way home..)
i also have an i9 which is very stable but also a bit small for any taller folks, and isnt really set up for fishing other than a milk crate.

all good... we'll be ok, I don't want to see anyone racing around to get yaks...
we'll make it and Kim is really behind this, I know we'll be ok...
see ya next time and thanks again for all you have done so far!!!!
-
I can bring coals money, and I can make a dish... It's basically $60 for the night, $200 deposit, and as ya saw last time, they charge you for parking as you come in... I think ya get a free parking depending on the amount of people...
your right in that it would help with the inspection
I was looking at the del valle web site...
and the camp sites open after 2/10....
I don't know what these sites are like, but I think there closer to the water... that could be another option if only a few want to camp....

I thought you lived out by Grass Valley or something?
East Bay Slayer.... Nice :icon_rr:
Thanks for the work your doing with trying to get HOW some $$$$
we could use it!!!

The Pass will be the same as last time...
If you don't have it...
send me or Frankfishing an e-mail and we'll shoot it to ya

I was planning on staying on shore and taking pics so my T-15 and Zest tandem are available. I might be short a paddle and a seat though.

If these would be not too much trouble, that would be great,
Let me also see what I come up with from Kim at Sunrise...
-
I have an extra paddle I can bring. No seat though.
-
I was in Tahoe.
It will be good to see you Bill!
I'm in for camping. I do not want to "try" and sleep in the Volvo again.
-

I have a extra Ocean Kayak seat. If you still need it I could bring it?
-
Just got off the phone with Don and I think we are going to get the same spot we had last time. Who's in for camping the night before?
-
Free fishing permit for the Vets is secured....
Thanks Fish & Game....
at least there getting this right.... :smt002
-
I just got word that I can get off work that day. I would be thrilled to help out if you have room for another. I can pony up some cash to help out and/or gather supplies & food. I have an extra kayak, paddle, & pfd. What I don't have is much in the way of freshwater gear. If there is a boat shortage I would be more than happy to help out in the rear to free up my kayak as well for a Vet to use.
Chad

In for camping.

Howard

The site is ours. same as before. I will get there as early as they will let me check in on Thursday. Will confirm check in time soon. It would be nice to do a little recon and make sure the Vets get on fish.

That sounds great!!! Can you hook up with Frankfishing, he is the hunter gather on this one....
I'll let him know next time I talk to him if he does not see this first.
-
Don -
I guide from the rear seat of my tandem with the passenger in the front seat and Molly in the middle. Works really well because you can fan cast from the the front seat and troll 2 rods from the rear. Should be able to take a paraplegic since it is super stable. I did my first recon trip to DV yesterday and got skunked. Most fish were being caught from shore soaking bait from the ramp south to coyote corner. Water clarity was fair to good with little debris and 49 degrees. Most of the boats were flat lining and I didn't see any fish caught on the troll. There were boats fishing on the anchor 1/2 mile north of the launch which caught a few fish. Bottom line: bring an anchor and power bait. I will do another recon trip next week.
Scott
-
Thanks Scott,
The guy I'm thinking of has had recent hip surgery, and wants to go on his own, but we need options...
we will also have a bass boat there so if the kayak is too much, were covered.
it's just he wants to get out with his kayaking daughter, who is coming, who is also active military...
How Kool is that!!!?
On the concern side is...
long range forcast is calling for significant rain for the beginning of the week of the event.... :smt012
-
hey, anyone going to Del Valle HOW have an extra anchor kit they want to sell? I think I just need a 1.5lbs anchor if not i can but one online. hope someone will chime in today i don't want to much time to go by before i have to order it on-line and get it by the time we go to Del Valle.
thanks JerBear

I got one for ya Jerber... 4lbder, all yours, I'm not sure I have a rope for it, does anyone else have a line?
thanks for chiming in Jerber... saved me a call!!!
-
thanks Don, how much rope is needed? 25 ft 50 ft?
-
Wish I could help but can't get away from work on Friday. JerBear Retractable dog leashes work well for anchor lines. Keeps the mess under control. Mine is 26' long which is usually long enough.
Good luck
-
thanks Don, how much rope is needed? 25 ft 50 ft?
I have a polyethelene rope we could cut up if we don't come up with something better...
no worries, this will work, I'm just not sure how long it would need to be.
The advice from LilRiverMan,
does not sound to long... and LRM, :smt006
Thanks for wanting to help, there will be more events soon...
-
I just noticed a report on Del Valle in WON...
" Outstanding!!!! " always the day your not there.... :smt012
But, it sounded like the best bite was in the late afternoon....
Maybe we should rethink the early start time and see if everyone can arrive later?
Just a thought...
might work out well for the Vets who are a bit " out of sorts... " as it is....
take our time getting set up... lunch, and ease into the water....
Torrential Rainstorm excluded....
If it is raining all that week... we will postpone.... :smt009
-
i like the dog leash thing i just lost my golden retriever will have to see if her leach is long enough
-
i like the dog leash thing i just lost my golden retriever will have to see if her leach is long enough
My condolences JerBear. No kinder or happier dog walks the face of the earth than the Golden Retriever. My retriever Molly will be there to cheer you up. You will need 50' of line to anchor in 30-40 FOW.
-
just lost my golden retriever
So sorry Jerber....
lets get you set up with a anchor line and
keep the leash for when you get a new pup.... :smt002
-
thanks everyone no words can tell you how much i appreciate all your help and kindness.

Anytime JerBear!!!
Were here for ya...
and Thanks Again for your Service..... :salut:
I also have a copy of the Western Outdoor News edition with you on the cover...
Give it to you at the gig...
BTW, you now have past 10 post!!! Congrats....
You can now look at " Members only " fishing reports.... :smt003
-
The more I think about it,
The more I like the idea of a late start...
this would be better for the wounded warriors coming in at their ease...
So just arrive all through out the morning... get out and fish if ya want, maybe a few vets get there early and get them out, if they want...
Some will be camping the night before and be out for sure in the morning,
we'll take over beach view... set up... slowly get everyone paired up and safety issues... Lunch, and out for a afternoon of fishing... kinda all day affair...
This makes sense and is already taking a ton of stress off me....
I like it.... :smt004
-
I'm thinking of a pre-fish next Friday...
Got the Fellas... :smt052 worst kayak dog ever... :grommit:
Probably just going show up late morning and drift power bait and worms,
see what happens and need to talk to staff out there...
will post in Hook ups and here as I become more solid on this....
-
:smt005 would love to meet you up there on the Pre-Friday . but they (the VA) changed the day of my class for amputee peer visitors. sorry cant miss that i love my fellow vets and they need me so i will have to bow out this time but most of the time i keep Fridays open for fishing. next time. I will still be there for HOW on the 18Th. and i know i am going to get the biggest fish. ;-)
JerBear
-
and i know i am going to get the biggest fish.
That's the spirit!!! we have a few small prizes for a mini tourney... rules & regs will be figured on the fly.... :smt102
If ya have a few buddies who are interested in coming on Friday, 2/18, just let me know...
Even if they don't want to kayak, they can grab a rod and fish the shore for free...
I have a group license for vets and all fees are waived for the park...
just let me know and I'll get them a pass or we will figure out something....

I've got a bunch of duck sausage, happy to bring some. Have you picked a start time yet? Anything else needed?

So just arrive all through out the morning... get out and fish if ya want, maybe a few vets get there early and get them out, if they want...
Some will be camping the night before and be out for sure in the morning,
we'll take over beach view... set up... slowly get everyone paired up and safety issues... Lunch, and out for a afternoon of fishing... kinda all day affair...
This makes sense and is already taking a ton of stress off me....
I like it.... :smt004
This makes sense to me... no stress, we'll just assemble during the morning...
if some go out, great.... lunch around noonish, and fishing through out the late afternoon...
bring any grub you have... we should have people who will be on shore making things happen...
-
Received the Reservation for Eagles View for 2:00 PM 2/17 - 12:00 PM 2/18 today in the mail. "Lets get this party started uh huh uh huh"
Thanks for taking care of that BigFoot!!! :smt006
-
Thanks for taking care of the reservation. Does the fee include entry to the lake? Do we have to pay in addition to that? Are we doing a group feed with any organization, or just bring food and share deal? I guess when we get closer we can talk some about it. I can bring a trailer full of firewood. Plenty for a night plus the next day if we need it.
-
I'll check with EBParks. I know last time there was confusion on parking $. Everything else but the Q-mussle inspection should be covered. Don?
-
Well...
For those coming a day early, state that you are there for the group camping " Eagles View ", you still have to pay for launch/ daily fishing permit ( if you fish ), quagga ( have to anyway) and parking, the parking thing was confusing cause there are parking passes for the group site... but I think they only dish them out for every 4th or so person arriving.. sill not sure what happened there... basically, we are not getting any special privileges for the day before..
but for the 18th... were all good... :smt003
-
Thanks Don.
-
so who all is camping on the night before? I'm in... :-)
-
Me with firewood.
-
Well,
I don't want to sound doom and gloom, but it looks like were heading into a fairly long wet pattern starting around Monday/ Tuesday...
could just be showers, but days of it... The " Alarmist..." TV News... are stating
" Significant!!!.... " rainfall, probably more North than here....
We'll just wait and see....
Bigfoot... what is the rainout policy on the campground? I would hope they just honor another date....
-
Who cares!
-
I'm not one to let a few rain showers dampen my day,
but, if it is significant,,, it will muddy the water, and be a real pain for those just trying this sport for the first time...
Not going to drag these warriors out there who are having a tough time anyway,
to sit out in the rain on a kayak, just not the best way for a first outing...
but lets just see what happens next week
-
Here's a question...
How does one pass Quagga Muscle inspection in the rain?
-
Yes I agree. But I will be there anyways. Any Storm troopers out there!
-
Yes I agree. But I will be there anyways. Any Storm troopers out there!
Copy... :smt005 You guys are nuts!!!
We'll make the decision on Monday, maybe even Sunday if there is enough intel, as it's going to be tough for me to get the word out next week about postponing this event...
Fingers crossed....
-
If we have to cancel, we have to cancel. I am also trying to spend two days at my property in Butte County that week. I Should have known better.
-
If this storm pans out as it is looking...
The High pressure gets knocked out this weekend and were in line for several systems all next week...
it does not look as though there is anything out there that would change this forcast...
If it is just on and off showers next week,
we should go forward...
if we have heavy rainfall... postpone
from the armchair weather forcaster desk.... :smt024
-
Del valle storms don't scare us! :-)

STORM TROOPER FOR LIFE :toothy2:
Pat R
-
I hear ya...
Almost a insult to these Men and Women who have been in much... much... worse than a little rain...
Unless it's a Typhoon, were on!!!
I went out there today for a little recon, looks like the area where we launched last time is the " Hot Spot..." might even have to rope off a area for us to launch!!!
and a little weather would be welcome as to keep some of these pikers off our beach!!!
Fishing was slow out there and any fish caught were caught here...
not sure what everyone is expecting to use to catch fish,
Yule "o" powerbait is probably the ticket, with a dash of worm...
we should have a power cord like last time so we could have coffee...
still working on that...
Oh ya... and there should be a plant next week...
Keep tuned...
-
I'm sure your all watching the weather like me,
Heaviest part of this system hits Tuesday, and then intermittent showers...
It looks like COLD showers :cold for Friday, Possible snow on the eastbay hills,
We can do this...
Build a fire in the Big BQ pit, and we'll use the other small grills for cooking the man dogs
Kayakjack, I think were going to need your pup shelter...
I think we'll string up some tarps too, maybe some Hescos!!!
We'll secure that point... :smt066
-
Don You know if the vet are up to the rain, even if it's scattered rain? Also, I could bring my Canopy Car Tent if needed?
-
Thanks for the intel Don. My e-z up broke but i can probably get guitarzan's.
-
I have a 10x20 canopy I can bring. Kinda heavy, but will bring it if you want me to.
-

If you bring yours and mine we could add the both for a 10x40 or a 20x20 shelter.
-
how much wood do you want? cant wait this is going to be fun :smt003
-
Don You know if the vet are up to the rain, even if it's scattered rain?
That's a good question, and I will ask them, this is going to be a bit Burley...
The vets I've have talked to are really pumped about getting out with us, I think they would still want to go... but I will put the conditions we are facing to them...
We should be prepared to face possible capsize and a cold person... were going to need shelter and fire... being people are camping, we will have sleeping bags and I'll bring blankets and a couple more sleeping bags... to combat hypothermia if we should get to that situation

lots, I think racinrob was going to bring some too, we need to keep a fire going...
I will ask that all participants/vets, bring extra clothes and prepare for cold/wet conditions.
looks like we will be fishing close to the launch site and we do have one bass boat for OTW support...
Cold and Wet conditions do take this up a notch, but if we stay close to the launch, and check in with your Vets. I think we'll be good. Probably going to be 2 guides on 1 vet is also why I'm feeling a bit more confident on this.

Oh yeah it was slow. Trolled the whole lake from the river to the dam for nada. A few trollers caught 1-2 fish for 4 rods in the narrows and swallow bay. Would definitely plan on fishing bait. For artificials, a spoon or wooly bugger worked slowly on the bottom might work. The water level is low with a temp of 49 degrees. The south end is shallow, less than 20' deep. Water clarity is fair right now but on Friday will be poor. We will need to establish a beach head before the gates open on Friday. I would bring an anchor for baitfishing or fish from shore.
-
"We will need to establish a beach head before the gates open on Friday."
Mooch, bring your air-soft gun. ; )

Sounds good so long as the vets and the other volunteers are prepared for rain then cool.
I'll bring the canopy in that case.
-
Don I'm going to try to make it and ride with Rob looks like it is working out
-
Don,
It looks like Brian and I may be bringing my motorhome down to stay in. We can keep it warm during the day in case of a capsized vet that needs to get warm. I will have firewood.
-
That sounds great racinrob!!!
I really want to have a way to keep someone warm if they get on the Bad side of cold...
Hypothermia is nothing to screw with....
Thanks

That's Great too Brian...
Glad you can make it and we'll dish out those prizes you got for us last time... :smt002

Were getting close...
still need to figure out the food thing and Frankfishing will be doing most of the last minute shopping...
any ideas or things you can bring just post up. The plan is just for a simple Hotdog and chips or whatever is easy kinda thing...
hamburgers might be kinda messy to deal with out there even though we do have a restroom close by to clean up.
if ya can't bring anything or we have it covered, a small donation of $5 bucks or so should get us close...
Also, bring any extra foul weather gear or paddling gear as to keep these folks as dry as possible out there..
and Most Important...
MARK YOUR GEAR !!!!!!!!!!
It get s a little hectic as we deploy everywhere and things go every which way... we get it all back,
but if you have your gear marked, it makes it a bit easier....
It's going to be hectic with me this week and I'll try to keep up on the site as much as possible,
but I'm on light duty in Sacramento, driving from the Bay Area :icon_weelchairbb:
Stuck with Chiefs :farao: :farao: :farao: :farao: :farao:
and definitely not enough Indians :smt102...what I'm trying to say is, I'm going to be... ahh.. distracted...
Get in touch with Frankfishing as I will be checking in him and looking at the site when I can....
also feel free to call (510) 374-9185
Gates open at 6....
if your camping the night before, gates close at 7, and that's it, might even get your car towed if you park out there and walk in,
so get there before that and get your yak inspected ( they even close that a little early too ) ...
Thanks Guys,
This is going to be fun!!!
-
Here is the list of those said they are able to help ...

-
sorry i will only have one kayak and some wood and a couple of set ups and tackle
That's Fine... just a yak for yourself, no extra, right?
and Thanks for the wood, that is going to be important,,,,
-
A Little Rain wont hurt me any! bring it on, I am still on-board rain or shine. still wondering about how that inspection will be with a wet YAK
they will lets in the water right?
-
I think if it is raining, just make sure the inside of your yak is clean. No sand or dirt. Try to keep the moisture out, but I read that a little water in bad weather is OK in a PB, so the yaks should be good too.
-
Thanks Rob...
kinda wondering about that myself...
Got nothing to add right now.... :smt102
-
i also have some wadders and pdfs to bring :smt003
-
Danglin, is there anything you need me to do? Do you have a job that needs to be filled? Or should I just show up and find something to do after I get there? I dont want to "freelance" :smt044 Just tell me what you need bro!

just show up, help out... especially me!!! (moving all my yaks and gear to the shore)
and take a wounded warrior fishing, eat, have fun... :smt004
Did I send you a pass? anyone that needs one send me a e-mail elsob@sbcglobal.net

:smt010 No one offered me a Pass
Do you need one? My Apologies if I skipped over ya.... it's very pretty and suitable for hanging on the wall after the event... :smt002
Everyone else will be wearing theirs..... ya don't want to be left out....
-
I'm assuming that the pass is that badge looking deal with your name on it Don?
My friend will be coming along to help out too. He's good with cooking and just about anything you need him to do. Just don't send him out to guide someone. Never been in a yak. I'll get him out Thursday to see if he can swim. :smt003
Do you still need it Frank? I just got home and saw the message. I'll send it anyway.
Rob
-
Thanks Rob,,
I took care of it...
It will be easier if ya all have a pass, if you do show without a pass and there is a problem...
which I don't expect, say your with HOW and have them get ahold of a park supervisor and tell them your with me...
maybe only cost ya double.... :smt002

Picked up hotdog buns today will post early Wed. afternoon with the rest of what I collected.

If everyone brings what is listed here as far as Yaks...
I think we got it... I will still talk to Kim at Sunrise today, but at this point, I don't know how he can help as I don't have enough time to get out there and work something out.
And I believe we we can handle it on our own...
I think we are looking at around 10 to 12 vets showing....
Thanks Again everyone!!!
