I’m gonna trust the warranty process.

My Hobie cracked on both sides.  Same location. Right at the bottom of the gap in the cupholders. The opening where the “Ear” of a coffee cup would go, and where water is allowed to drain. Hobie should close that opening and simply put a scupper hole in the bottom to drain out.

Saddened.
But I did catch my two first LMB of 2024.  Happy!  😃

Sorry to hear about your kayak issue.   Hope they will replace it.

Hobie was very good about my warranty claim (hull replacement), although that was quite a while ago. In any case, my impression is that they'll generally still do the right thing, but you might have to push harder than in the past.

Mine was over a year past warranty and I was the second owner. They still replaced it free of charge!! Awesome company.

Good you spotted that while on dry land, imagine you’re x miles out at sea…

Seems like more cracks in yaks than years past? Plastic has always seemed so indestructible

Makes me glad I didn’t spring for a Hobie yet. They’re a great company but this shows even they can have their problems

I think the guy I brought in at Muir was on an OK that had been repaired. It was a stunning experience watching it go nose up and slide to the bottom

I'm curious whether Hobie is having more, less, or the same number of problems as they've had in the past. The Hobie forum used to be extremely active, with people from Hobie constantly monitoring and interacting with customers. Then it was easy to see when any problems popped up. Unfortunately, the new ownership has de-emphasized the Hobie forum--it's pretty much dead now, and I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually pull the plug on it.

I had to deal with a hobie warranty back in 2018. It was a lot of BS! I bought the 2018 pa14 brand new from CCK. I took it out on the sax river and trolled around for salmon for around 3 hours before the kayak started to feel heavy. I thought it was just me. I got back to the dock the hull had about 10 gallons of water in it. Took it straight back over to CCK and we found out that all of the scuppers were leaking. Hobie wanted me to put a go pro by each scupper and take it out to prove it was leaking. I told them if they send me the go pros that have night vision I will. The head of the warranty department Jock is a pr**k to say the least! After over a month of back and forth with Hobbies management the owner of CCK contacted me and said to bring the kayak back to them and they have a new one with my name on it and they will deal with hobie. I honestly was thinking that I would never buy another hobie because of my experience with them but if you want a top of the line peddler you just have to.

I really hope you don’t have to deal with the same BS as I did and your warranty will be a lot easier!

*** FYI… Anyone dealing with a warranty through hobie know this… If hobie ever asks you how you are storing and transporting your kayak make sure to tell them you store it on a stand with their kayak support cradle! Jock told me if you’re not transporting and storing it with the cradles then that will void the warranty.

Update!!  Billy called. Hobie is putting a new hull on the next shipment out.

They covered it.  I’m going to add more stuff foam in the interior strategically I think.  Cheap yoga blocks from the thrift store.
