I going to be doing the same here in next few weeks. I'm just going to start out selling directly to the consumer to avoid the extra permits. If you sale to restaurants it's another permit. If you plan to sell filets to restaurants then it's an additional permit.
Have you registered your kayak with DMV yet?

I did register with DMV. I upgraded from my old no name kayak to a pro angler knowing I would do this and be able to write it off so I had the dealer fill out their part on the DMV boat form. Made it real easy other than the $80 to register a kayak I otherwise wouldn't have to. But at least now I can put on a sail kit or cheat even worse and put a trolling motor on it. Although that pretty much defeats the purpose of using a kayak to begin with. But it's nice to have options.

So according to the warden I talked to I can weigh my own with a trade scale certified by weights and measures. Whether I go with the $775 receiver's license or just use it for transportation receipts looks like I'm out another $700-800 just for the scale. I still need to figure out a couple things with the receiver license and if I really need it or want it. The biggest draw is the ability to land my own fish so I can sell to just about whoever I want. Curious if you might know, do I need a catch monitor program and plan? I'm going to the DFW office in Ryan Ranch this week to finalize a few things. Other than that I've intro'd myself to a receiver on the muni wharf who seems willing to do business if all else fails.

New guy intro. I had a wild idea a while back and no idea if it'll work but I like to try wild ideas. Registering my kayak for commercial fishing and getting my commercial license this month. I popped in here to see if anyone else is doing the same. Will be in the Monterey bay chasing rockfish and California halibut mostly. Don't worry I'm in it for the write offs, not the money. I have a full time job and would be lucky to go out a few times a month.
