Thanks for the heads up.   The Hobie TI is hard on them.

The cart I received is slightly different than the oldschool version. The wheels are made of a different material. The frame appears to have narrower gage tubing, while also being slightly larger outside-diameter. The wheels barely slide onto the frame…I had to grease the axle to slide them on. Tried to slide my old wheelsonto the new frame—same issue. The luggage straps that came with the cart feel like better quality than the old straps, at least. Just a heads up.

Similar observations with the one I got as well.  I had to grease the axle to get it to turn easily.  Also, I noticed drilled holes on the tubing to allow for attachments.  I manually did this with an older cart to make a kayak cart that rests the kayak on 3" PVC so I found it nice that these were predrilled, nicely centered.  Overall, total steal!

In addition, I noticed the wheels don't roll easily. I thought they had done away with the bearings altogether. I took apart one of the wheels to inspect the issue. Turns out the bearings are still there. It's so tight that they don't easily turn anymore. I applied WD40 and turned the bearings on my drill a bunch of times. It's easier to turn now.
Even the foam pieces are different from the old ones. The old ones are tapered and stiff. The new ones are just cut from a tube and are soft.
Build quality is definitely not as good as before. But at that price, I can't complain.

Yep, the wheels kinda don't want to turn, which is pretty disappointing. Surprised that there are still bearings in there for how poorly the wheels rotate.

When you took them apart, did you just back off the four nuts and it all comes apart? Wondering what I can do to try to get things turning more easy. Any tips welcome.

(It's bad enough dragging a kayak up the hill at the end of the day. Not looking to lose much energy to friction in the wheels too.)

Yes. I just put WD40 on the bearings and turn it bunch of times to work it loose. I think they will become smoother with use. When putting the assembly back together, do not over tighten them. Try to remember the position of the nuts and put them back the way they were.
