Hi Guys,

Went back today to Shadow Cliffs, Pleasanton.  Got on the water at 8 am.  Took until 10 am to get my limit.  I could not get back into my spot.  There were 8 to 10 boats covering the area.  I fished the outside in 27 to 28 ft of water.  It was slower than yesterday.  All DFG rainbows for me today.  Others had some Thunder Trout.

I had to keep some small ones because they swallow the treble hook.  Trout from 10" to 14".  Green power bait.

Got there around 9 am at Shadow Cliffs.  On the water by 9:30.  3 guys in a boat were at the dock with limits of trout.  Mainly, they had Thunder Trout.  I got out near the middle in 30 ft.of water.  I was casting out my first rod and it was going off as the green power bait hit the bottom.  Thunder Trout around 18".

I had 3 doubles and finished up within 90 mins.  Got one Rainbow 13" and all others were Thunder Trout from 14" to 18".  I released 3 small Rainbows.  I think the Thunders do not fight as well as the Rainbows.  They make a few runs and then give up.  IMO.  The Thunders had nothing is their belly.

Quarry Lakes does get windy and is not protected like Shadow Cliffs.  Last time I fished Quarry was on March 19, 09 and I had one bite and got that trout.  It was a 18" and fat.  On rainbow power bait.

Right now Shadow Cliffs does not have a boat inspection.  Which will save you $3.  The boat inspection is only good for 30 days.  Then you have to get re-inspected. Shadow Cliffs is being stock with small DFG trout and the Mt. Lassen trout.  Quarry is only getting the Mt. Lassen fish.

At Cabela's restaurant you can get elk, wild boar, bison, ostrich sandwiches.  Bison brawurst or venison brawurst.  I have only tried the elk and it was good.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Spinning vs. Casting
« on: February 02, 2009, 10:20:39 AM »
Casting.....Don't really need to cast a spinning reel.  Also, the drags on a casting reel are way better.... if  you hook up to "Mr. Ling".

Nice Fish Pat,

Thank for the report.  I will be on the lakes as soon as Duck Hunting is over.  I will be smoking some trout today.

Good Fish..... Scott,

Looks like you are at the boat ramp when you took that pic.  Looks like the "honey hole" is right behind you.  Which it is always there.  Is the water up or down?  Is there any water in the swim area?

Thanks,  Ken kickfish

Tarpon 160 is great.  Guys like the Hobies now.  I have one Hobie Outback Mirage....not really a good ocean kayak.  However, have taken it out there.  But, if you break the rudder system and are 3 to 6 miles from shore.  Good luck.  My 2 cent.

Yes, if you launch from the very left or south side.  It is the shortest path pass the breakers.  Right at the very corner of the cove near the houses.  Forgot how many houses are there.  But, it is at least 6 to 8 houses in.  I think?

It is very rocky there so watch out.  I would wear a helmet.  At low tide you can see all the rocks on the beach.  At high tide you can only see sand.  Coming in is sometimes hairy.  I use to come in near the creek because of the rock factor.

By the way good job on the Crabs.  You could try for sanddabs (used squid strips or cut up anchovies) or even surf perch with a sabiki.  When the salmon were running in there years ago.  I remember getting 4 and then 5 silver perch there.  Trying to jig up some fresh anchovies for bait for salmon mooching.

Hi Guys,

I used to like to fish the area in front of the swim area.  But, that has been dead for a few years.  I go into the back far side a way from the ranger station.  I like to stay near the narrows..which is the bottom of the horseshoe.  If it is like a lucky horseshoe.  The lake is like a big "U".  The narrows always has trout swimming threw it.  But, the shore guys have a long reach.  So, watch out where you anchored up. Any where from 15 to 16 ft up to 24 ft.

The first few days after the trout are planted.  They are drugged up so they don't beat themsleves up in the tank ride.  And, they will not take bait.  They will hit lures for some reason.  Seen it more than a few times to know it does work.

I fish a wilderness systems 16 ft tarpon....old style with the two hatches.

Pat,

Thanks....I was fishing Shadow Cliffs and most fish there were small dfg fish.  I think the milk and eggs are just for a short while and the trout will get better.  Saw a 10 lber taken today off a boat trolling.

How is San Pablo Dam?  I think you fish that place.  Only been there a few times.

Went back to Quarry.  Got there at 10 am.  On the water by 10:30 am.  Slow until 12:30pm.  Got a 17" and then nothing.  Until, 2:30 and got a 13".  One more 15" at 3:30.  Stayed until 5pm.  Guys were saying that kastmaster were working.  I tried to troll a few in blue and silver.  But, no hits.  I left my spinning gear at home.

I think that has been the ticket the last few days.  They don't want powerbait and all my fish were on nightcrawlers inflated.  The big Lassen trout are many females and full of eggs.  The body are soft.  But, I will try to smoke them and tell you if it is any good.

Got on the water at 9 am.  Slow....(Full Moon?)...was using green powerbait and got one takedown.  But, it stopped after a short awhile.  Switch to rainbow and got no hits.  First fish was a noon and it was on a nightcrawler...inflated.  It was a 14" and I was in the back on the rightside of the horseshoe.  In 18 to 19 ft of water.  Moved to the narrows in 16 to 17 ft.  around 1:45 pm.

Got a double...17" and a small 12" DGF plant at 2 pm.  Got my last one at 3:15 pm.  All on the worm.  Could not stick my last one.  Left at 4 pm.  Water is way down....probably down a good 20 to 30 ft.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Chuck E gets a Goose
« on: December 22, 2008, 12:19:58 PM »
Chuck and I hunted SF Bay a few days ago.  He got a goose and we got a few ducks.  I had to take my son to SFO and Chuck called me around 9 am and already had the goose down.  I showed up around 10:30.  We stayed until 3 pm.
