General Talk / How to make sure pickled herring is safe to eat?

I am currently brining some herring in a water/salt/sugar solution overnight. My plan was to make a pickling solution tomorrow like this:

It uses sugar and vinegar and spices, and I plan to pickle the herring in this solution.

How can I make sure the herring is safe to eat bacteria and parasite wise?

Hey all,

Brand new to this whole kayak fishing thing, and looking to rig up my Native Manta Ray Propel 12 kayak. Have added a couple rails, flush mount rod holders etc and now on to the fish finder / gps combo. I've been doing some research, and have sort of come down to the Garmin Striker Plus 4 CV fishfinder/gps combo. Just thought I'd get your guys' thoughts on this rig, and I'm looking to do a lot of rockfishing out in Pacifica / HMB etc.

Introductions / New to the Kayak Fishing World

Hey all,

I am new here, and to kayak fishing in general. I have always been a huge fisherman my entire life, but decided to give it a go on the kayak. Looking to do a lot of rockfishing/crabbing, and hopefully some summer trolling for salmon. I went with a used Native Watercraft Manta Ray Propel 12, and slowly adding to it!
