Title: Hobie rudder assembly help needed
Post by: HamachiJohn on January 14, 2013, 05:56:26 PM
My Adventure rudder assembly broke at Albion last year against some logs at the launch. Tells you how long i havent fished.. I bought the replacement part and the actual fitting looks easy. However, the knots to tie the string/cable to the assembly looks intimidating. Anyone wanna help me? Otherwise, maybe CCK does such installs...

Btw, the assembly came with the rudder, which i dont need. First person to pm me can have it. Pls only pm if u actually need it... thx.

Jonathan

Peace & blessings!

What knots do they recommend? I'm pretty decent with knots, just no experience doing this actual job. But I'm here for you neighbor, if you need me!

not 100% sure about the AI, but on all the other hobie rudders the knots are just to take up extra line. the lines are held in place with two screws. you untie the half hitches, loosen the screw and adjust or replace. the line will be wrapped around the screw a few times, thats what holds it in place

I re-rigged a rudder assembly for a Hobie Mirage Tandem a few years ago.  It was not fun.  Actually didn't do it alone, but took it to Mel Cotton's and the paddle sports manager spent about 1.5 hours helping me with it.

The part that is a pain in the ass and I havnt finished it yet, (mine broke before TRW2) is the rudder up and down lines.  The steering lines arnt too bad, but up and down suck.

Ask JT at CCK to help you out.  This way you have peace of mind and its done right.  He has done a lot of rudder retro fits.  You can test it out at the dock the same time.
Beats driving to a lake and paying fees.  Personally for things like this you get the most $$ on your personal time.  I know you're a busy guy.
