Some great advice and experience to prepare for a great adventure in the future. Looks like some requirements before your even considered.

I would imagine a new kayak would be a must. I would think a dry run would also be in order to familiarize yourself with a new one as well to make sure there are no defects.

How much use and stress has been exerted on your current kayak on your last journey? I think it was considerable?

Love the enthusiasm. I think with some more thought-out research and planning you will achieve your goal quickly.

I to am looking to change my 2015 crv for something a little easier to sleep in if need be. Been looking at the transit vans. Have not checked into reliability just yet though. The lower profile ones. I know Hojo has one. Hopefully he will chime in. I do know most are either 2 or 2.5 liter. 2.5 liter would be my choice.Only draw back is I prefer AWD in my vehicles.

As far as fishing regs. I have called my local fish and game officer for any regulation questions. Most times I leave a detailed message and he will return my call with answers. So, guessing u will have to call a few different state fish and game officers to get information on the different areas you will be crossing. Good luck on your information gathering and good luck on your travels.

Second that. I jig for few seconds and then leave the jig still until u feel it load up with squid and then reel up at a good controlled speed. If you continue to jig up and down as you retrieve, you will just  be knocking the squid off. I have been on the water and watched folks do this.

I hope u have luck, Paul.

If not, they might have fresh squid at the end of the first pier by MBK, plus other types of seafood as well as the shop next door that has fresh abalone.

Was gifted a beautiful abalone shell from ,Eric as a great reminder of shelter cove, our Ncka family and being able to assist a great friend.  :beer3

Glad I was able to assist, Mark.

Got to say you did a great job in reboarding your kayak. Here is pic right after.
