Is the entire Capitola beach fenced off or just the part next to the pier? I was thinking of heading down there next week since the entire coast up by SF is blown out.

I used to park in the overflow parking in the NB campground, it's just as you get up the hill to the campground, before you get to the trailers, then wheel my yak down the road to the chain across the entrance to the lower lot, under the chain and down to the beach.  It's maybe 2/10ths of a mile, downhill.
I don't recall what I did with my wheels, probably put them in the hatch,  but maybe I locked them up under the stairs.  The walk back up isn't awful, though not fun, but watch for the cars and RV's on the narrow road around noon.  The chain sometimes didn't come down until 8:30 or so, the ranger wasn't an angler, I guess.  You need a pass to park anywhere in the park. Yeah, I did it less often after the helicopter pics of sharks in the area and as I got into my late 70's!

7th Avenue when waves are small. I used to launch at Mitchell's Cove a lot.  Back when the prowler 13 weighed in at 40 pounds or so... wicked switchback stairs.

That is a great place to launch, but I only ever did it when I could get my kids to carry the kayak down and up the stairs. It's also worth noting that at high tide, that beach might disappear...
But oh, that magic feeling,
Nowhere to go,
Nowhere to go!

Mitchell Cove's stairs: Once went with a buddy who lifted weights..  He put his P15 over his head and took it down around and over the turns, then came back up and took mine down.  Then took them both back up!

Mitchells will close up at hightide, so make sure you know what the tide is when you intend to land. Just an FYI
