General Talk / Re: California Boater Card« on: April 05, 2024, 03:24:52 PM »
Note: You do not need this card for a motorized kayak.
"California law requires a person to be 16 years of age or older and in possession of his/her California Boater Card to legally operate a vessel powered by a motor of 15 hp or more, including personal watercraft (PWCs)." My Trolling motor is 36lb thrust. Nowhere near 15HP. 5
Craftsmen's Corner / Re: Hull Protection« on: March 27, 2024, 02:57:29 PM »My only concern about the rivet is if you hit a stump/rock or whatever, and it tears the rivets out, now you have exposed holes below the waterline.I used Kydex myself and it’s doing its job so far. Used the strongest gorilla double sided tape I could find and silicone to outer edges. 6
General Fishing Tips / Re: Bead Management« on: March 26, 2024, 12:44:39 PM »
Tip: When building lures, I do all my work in a shallow baking sheet. That keeps those pesky little parts from rolling away. I learned this the hard way when my wife stepped on a #4 hook that found its way to the carpet.

I feel your pain. You pop open those packs and the dam things go everywhere! Just go to your local craft store. They'll have an assorted sizes of bead boxes for only a few dollars.

While fishing for Kings at Folsom lake a few weeks back we were approached by the Wardens in a boat. We asked if they wanted up to stop and reel in our lines. The said, No keep fishing. We'll just pull along side and keep pace with you. The asked us to hold up our licenses so he could see them with their Binoculars. We did. They thanked us and moved off. There's no way that they could have seen them if we had them on our phones.

I think that if you cant spell these simple words by the end of Jr. High/Middle School, There's no way you should be allowed to go to high school. Unfortunately, I can picture a lot of 18 year old's stuck in 8th grade! 10

Had a great day! Met Mark at the ramp and got on the water about 9:00. Trolled towards the dam and picked up a 11” Kokanee. Marked a few fish here and there but no schools in front of the dam. Thinking, uh oh, this is not looking too good. On a usual day we get our 5 fish limit by the time we get to the end of the dam. Caught up with Mark there. We continued to go up the South East arm. Nothing. Only a mark every once in a while. Stuck it out and kept going all the way to the back of the arm. Bingo, started marking fish everywhere from 15-40’. For the next 4 hours it was hit after hit. Ended up the day landing 17 Kokes and 2 Rainbows. Had tons of short strikes and lost 6 at the net. Not exactly on fire fishing. Usually we land 30 or so each. Still, there was plenty of action to keep it interesting. Brought home 5 Kokes and the two Rainbows. The rest and many more are still there waiting for you. Mark, it was a pleasure meeting and fishing with you. Congratulations on breaking your Kokanee cherry! Kevin

My trailer was stiff too. Any bump or pothole and it was all over the place. I removed one of the leaf springs and it runs really well now.

With the recent storms, I haven't been to Bullards or Sly in two months. Hearing that Bullards is putting out nice sized fish so I'd bet money that Sly Creek is even better. 14

The guys that I'm talking about are all experienced freshwater fishermen so no need for basic instruction. We have been getting all of the safety gear collected and familiarized with. We're just looking for someone to show us what to use, how to rig and where to go at ARW.
