sounds fun, May 4th would be awesome
Also because the May 11 weekend have a big negative tide. Maybe a chance to take out some urchins.
the change in the fathoms that we might be able to fish, is that for the entire coast line or just northern part of calif.
Fishing wise if RF is closed there is a whole pile of sole to be caught. The bigger ones pull decently and they are delicious!
The only conflict I can see at the point for May 11 is Mother's Day May 12th.
Eric, let me know when you get the date set so I can adjust the fish and chill I have scheduled the 15th-20th.
I can move it a couple weeks later if needed.
I don’t know if I’m qualified to give any fishing advice for that area. I would defer to LolitaEric who is the pro for the area.

The only conflict I can see at the point for May 11 is Mother's Day May 12th.If memory serves it would not be the first GS event to coincide with a Mother’s Day event….. and if I remember correctly there is a way to set it up so a lovely weekend on the lost coast would work for all parties.
I would attend, even though I can't kayak anymore. Especially if Crash can take orders for oysters!
Too soon to preemptively reserve a campsite or hotel room?
Loleta - it's my home town. As opposed to the 'other' Lolita meaning... :smt002

****EDIT****
Never 'too soon', reserved site 12 at the campground.
I think I'll bring the smoker and do a 17-pound brisket I found in the freezer for the potluck if there is going to be one.
...it's new owners and I got the impression they have some deep pockets, owning a few campgrounds around the west. This lady moved out from one that the new owners owned back in Texas and is now working here taking reservations.
I asked if there were any changes from the old owners and she said they are planning to sink some money into the place, starting in a couple weeks to refurbish the bathroom/showers.
I can't recall her name right now, but it was very Southern/Texan, with two names, like Mary Ann or something like that. Ha!
I own 2 lots in SC. 1 close to airport and the other nearby in the redwood. If you're tight on budget, you can camp out on my redwood lot. Let me know if you are interested.
FWIW…Eric I’m sending good vibes that this takes place, be nice to have some “normalcy” again with NCKA ..Good vibes dude!

I'll make it if I'm healed up enough to lift my kayak. Won't complain if you decided a late May date is better weather wise etc.Whats up Kirk! Haven't heard from you for a minute! Hope whatever your healing heals quickly :smt002
This news brings me great joy, I need some cove time in my life. I hope the taco team will assemble again.Aside from seeing everyone! TacoJack is always something I look forward to!
I’m reminded of great adventures not so long ago of salty voyages in a lost area of the Northern California coast.
My sole aches to revisit these haunts of days gone by …..
Who knows what the future holds where “Life is Good”
See ya soon,
;0)
I am so fucking excited about the possibility that this could actually happen. The chance to reconnect the brotherhood. The brotherhood that has meant so much to me for so long. A brotherhood forged by the sea and our mutual need to survive and thrive in the sea. Interacting with Mother Nature on such a simple yet gritty and honest level with people I truly care about. That is what makes me happy. The lost coast is so special. I will make a million fish tacos and take out the trash too. Anything for my brothers.
Any update on the final date yet? Last I heard, May 11th but maybe May 4th.
I see tacos in your future... :smt004

Thank you Eric for putting on this tournament. Are you including Cabs and greenlings in the rockfish category?
Thank you for the quick reply Eric.
Registration will be done next week :smt001
So happy to see this. Can’t wait to see all my kayakfishing friends. Thanks Eric you’re a legend and GS lives on!!
Not sure if I can make it but it's great to see the return of GS!
I’ll be there but not bringing the kayak. Are there any clamming spots near The Cove? There is a nice minus tide on the 11th.
Will be there. Mailing paperwork Monday👍
Eric - I’m skipping the bike race, I’ll be there! Just gotta send in the paperwork.

Looking forward to joining this event, sounds like a great time. I would love to join you this year as it would be a great event to join and the proceeds go to a great cause. Will be joining Adam Dunaway for the trip as long as I can find a sponsor...... Would anyone like to sponsor me for this event? If so please send me a DM and we can discuss.
Thanks!

Any changes at the camp ground?
Quote from: SailfishAny changes at the camp ground?
New owners - Jack finally sold. They're cool and very business-like. I expect that reservations and delivery will be reliable and straight forward. There will not be any kind of pay per person, like Jack would do. It's strictly a campground transaction.
As for the potluck and awards, plus raffle, I have rented the pavilion and patio, so we are set for that - including Jack's Taco Shack!
This thread certainly hasn't lived the life of past GS threads, but I hope that those who are following are as stoked as I am for what we're putting together for the weekend of May 11th. :smt001

Make reservation here Sonny. They will call back to confirm. They will assign the campsite. I have not tried but maybe you can request for a specific site. It’s good that they don’t charge by person like how Jack used to do it. I’m paying $95 for 4 people from Thurs-Sun
We’re much older now Eric. We are saving our strength for the event😁Quote from: SailfishAny changes at the camp ground?

Thanks for the info Allan. Tried to call but no one answer so will try again later. Checked out their website to find out about the camp sites so maybe our group can stay close. I think it used to be first come first serve under old management.
(the fence line is cool but a family of skunks patrols that area, and its lighted up by the restaurant next door)
I am booked at site 96 on the skunk trail and next to the restaurant. Maybe I need to change sites. Where are the good sites?
Good evening I was wondering does anybody know the coordinates to Jurassic Park at Shelter Cove? A friend is bringing up a boat
(the fence line is cool but a family of skunks patrols that area, and its lighted up by the restaurant next door)If you can get a site near a tree its a plus. Shade and potential wind break. Keep your cooler and bait sealed up or you may find an unwelcome visitor nosing in your stuff.

I left my soft sided bait cooler unzipper a few years back overnight. Woke up in the middle of the night and needed to pee, but when I unzipped the tent door I was looking down the barrel of the business end of a skunk balls deep in the frozen anchovies. Sucker took his time too :smt044

Wow it seems like such a long time but this is what brought this huge group together so long ago. So many memories of enjoying the wonderful fishing up here. I look forward to hanging out with everyone again. Hopefully Shuland doesn't disappoint! LOL :smt005 Make sure to bring in your best fish taco sauce for all to try. Maybe have a little competition for the best fish tacos sauce at Jacks Shack!
Tight lines! :smt006
Jim
hopefully someone will make an Avocado/tomatillo sauce :chef:
Don't forget to bring the descender :smt001

Glad I was able to assist, Mark.
Got to say you did a great job in reboarding your kayak. Here is pic right after.
Make lemonade!
Finally! Got around to unpacking and checking out my cool shirts. Did anyone notice the year is not indicated on them?
