General Fishing Tips / Alameda Rock Wall advice
« on: April 12, 2024, 03:52:09 PM »
I am new to kayak fishing and plan to fish the ARW Tournament. I would normally fish from my 23’ boat around Berkeley, op, Candlestick, bird cage, the rockpiles and other areas. Never really fished the ARW area. The closest I would get to there was anchoring near the yellow bouy (Oakland) and letting the kids catch sharks. I plan on getting over there to fish in a couple weeks, I’ll be by myself. When I was in my powerboat I never worried about the tidal flow direction and making it back to the dock. Any advice on this location would be greatly appreciated or if you can point me right direction to educate myself. Am I over thinking this? Ideally I would normally like to fish 2 hours before and after the tide changes.

I’ll be using a Radar 135 with a Helix Pedal drive.

Introductions / New here since 2012!
« on: April 02, 2024, 09:18:48 PM »
Just wanted to introduce myself, I’m Rodney or Fishin_Rod or 46Wilyz in the rock crawling world. I joined here 12 years ago and never committed to getting a kayak until a couple months ago. I bought my first kayak, I have a Radar 135 pedal drive. I live pretty close to Melones Reservoir but have always loved fishing for halibut, striper, sturgeon, rockfish and salmon. I sold my big boat a few years ago and now have a 16’ dual console aluminum boat and my kayak. I’ve been having fun catching trout out of my kayak and looking to try for some larger fish and crabs. Hopefully maybe meet some people here that would not mind me tagging along at some point.

Safety First / crabbing out of pillar point during mavericks
« on: January 20, 2013, 11:48:41 PM »
I am going to HMB this wed through sun. I have never been there while mavericks is going.  Is it safe to drop crab pots outside the harbor?

Places to Launch and Camp / HMB in April
« on: February 10, 2012, 06:10:14 PM »
I am staying at Half Moon Bay SB campground the second week in April (all week). I have never camped in HMB before and do not know very much about it. I am brand new to kayaking, so new I have not bought my own kayak yet. If I wanted to do some crabbing would I be able to beach launch from the camping area?

I normally fish / crab around Bodega in my bigger boat or my Valco aluminum.

Thanks,
Rodney
