Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Viewing squid on the fish finder« on: April 23, 2024, 04:28:52 PM »
Squid show up as different marks at different times on different fishfinders, sure sign is a cormorant or sea lion surfacing with a squid in their mouth also look for Rizzo’s
Sometimes they don’t show up at all, don’t be afraid to drop blindly Typical squid marks include loose scattered “fuzz” on the bottom, gentle curving streaks upwards in light blue (light grey for non-color units), and if they’re abundant they ball up but not like a dark thick cloud of fin bait more like a thin broad fog in the top 2/3’s of the water column 8
CA Regulations / Re: Is RF open?« on: April 20, 2024, 12:20:36 AM »
The way I read it, in the waters near me, Monterey Bay, we can fish 300 feet and deeper from now until April 30. Anything shallower is still closed. Come May 1st until September 30th , we can fish 120 feet and shallower only. Then all October is only 300 and deeper, November is back to only 120 and shallower and December is back to only 300 and deeper.
Is this how others interpret this? 9

General Talk / Re: Easter« on: March 31, 2024, 10:56:44 AM »Figuring out which Sunday Easter will land on every year - maybe the only thing more complicated than the fishing regulations! Interesting to me how Easter is relative to the lunar calendar as other major religions have lunar ties as well How I understand it: 1st, the spring equinox occurs 2nd, the first full moon after the equinox 3rd, the Sunday following that full moon is Easter Sunday Happy Easter my fishy friends 12

Fishing Tournaments and Events / Re: MBK Derby 2024« on: March 23, 2024, 02:37:47 PM »I signed up. Would it be crazy to try to set up a clean n cook area for fish? Maybe it's too much with everything else going on. Not that I don't love a good hot dog though. I can attest to this as I volunteered to keep organized and dispose of "fish trimmings" for the previous Catch & Cook event. It was difficult to keep trash, recycling or anything other than fish waste from getting in the bin. It isn't fun being the trash police. Then I had to responsibly dispose of it which I did. Took it up to the ranch and buried it under the persimmon tree with the excavator. Adam- I'm happy to volunteer again for your event how ever I can help, I haven't checked my schedule yet tho so don't write me in just yet 15
