« on: March 12, 2018, 07:53:01 PM »
Can't believe nobody jumps on this deal!

You need it Sailfish! LOL..I have 4 inflatables that are in storage that rarely get used and time to thin the herd this Spring for the ww yakers.

New price lowered to $600. It's brand new and still in the plastic. Jim (916-501-9501) in Sacramento

I mostly paddle Malibu's (X-13's) and have a few older Prowlers for my kayak business. I just got this camo (blem) in with a recent shipment and probably don't need it after all. It's still in the plastic.

It's the Fish & Dive with the rod holders built in. One of my all time favorite kayaks and I've owned many.

I'm in Sacramento and can be reached at (916) 501-9501. I sold a X-13 about 2-3 years ago here to a recently retired fireman and member who lives in Santa Rosa or Petaluma, thinking his name is Ron?

THanks
Pic of my nephew with his new X-13 last week. He's a ab diver and fisherman and new member here (I think).

Get it out on the water price of $725.!

My thoughts on the X-13... I've owned the Scupper Pro, Prowler 13 and 15, Prowler 13T, Wilderness Tarpon 160, and a Perception Search and like the X-13 better for the following reasons:speed, as it's as fast as the Tarpon 16' with it's 13'10" length of long water line, easier to turn (especially on river with current), a bit more stability, and a whole lot lighter at 60lbs vs 82lbs (without rudder) on the Tarpon. Build quality and roto mold polymer material is stiffer than the OK kayaks, faster/easier to maintain a steady speed, and excellent in waves with it's almost silent bow. Search was also heavier by 15lbs, but did not like the small front hatch. Scupper Pro is a very good kayak, buth. t weight capacity is low with a wet ride and if over 200lbs, it's handling and speed drops big time. It's also too snug in the seat due to it's 26" width. I'll never bad mouth a Prowler as they are excellent performers. That said, after paddling the X-13, I'm not going back to them either since I love the all around performance and huge weight capacity, 450lbs, of the X-13. Just some thoughts from a part time fisherman, full time touring kayaker. As they say, YMMV.

Heads up...the Sierra Trading Post 50% off sale is on today!!! If you have signed up for their email deals, you should have the email and link. If not, try calling c/s and tell them you did not get it. A friend called their c/s department and got the deal without the email. Lots of kayaks (and other gear to choose from). :smt006

To get the further discounts, sign up for their email deals and then click the link. Nephew just called their c/s department and they gave him the sales discount on some Asolo hiking boots (about half of what REI runs).
About 2 months ago, I bought the Perception Search 15' and of all the kayaks I have owner or paddled, it's definitely my favorite (see my earlier post on it). Recently took it on a 3 day camping trip on Loon Lake and loaded down with probably 80lbs or more of gear and my weight at 210, and coming back (heading West to launch) into the late afternoon winds this yak performed well in wind and whitecaps. It's weight is double edged: makes it track and glide very well, but pain in the rear to lift/carry.

Checking out the many kayaks they offer and see the Tarpon 160 is $535., OK Trident 13' Fishing is $544., Trident 15' Fishing is $624., Prowler 13' Angler (my all time fav fishing yak) is $469., and the tried and true workhorse yak, Scrambler XT 12' at $354. All of these are 2nds/blems but it's almost impossible to spot any color flaws or imperfections. Shipping to your door runs $125. and I received mine in 3 days, and no sales tax.  :smt002

That said, if any of our local dealers are somewhat close in price, I fully support buying from them when you will probably get a chance to demo paddle, support a local shop/employees, probable discount on additional items, and service in case of a problem

Kayaks / Re: Perception Search 15' Review
« on: September 23, 2010, 09:58:08 AM »
Hey Tiny, sorry I missed your post: got mine here:http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/2247,1437T_Perception-Search-15-Touring-Kayak-Solo.html
Perception is part of the WS family, but damned hard to find the Search 15 locally. IMO, one of the best kayak designs on the water. Paddled back to launch site on Loon Lake and BIG whitecaps and this yak came through like a champ. Stability is good in big water.

Kayaks / Re: New Guy
« on: September 23, 2010, 09:47:57 AM »
New guy, you need a 15' kayak with your size! My top 3 choices and have owned/paddled all:
OK Prowler 15, big weight capacity, handles BIG water very well, stable as heck, and decent weight to carry. New ones are around, try Sierra Trading Post and hit their 50% off sale..killer deals, but buy locally if available.
Wilderness Systems Tarpon 160, one of the fastest, less stability than the P15, excellent glide, seat and hatches on 2008 and earlier models were a joke..plastic seat height adjuster was crap and would never hold position (think Fisher-Price) and the front hatch seal leaked badly with even small splashes of water over the bow..if flipped, guaranteed to fill the hull. Also did not like the way it "pearled" in big waves..meaning it would not rise over them (like the P15) but would punch through a wave resulting in waves of water washing over the deck. NOTE: new model years, 2009 and up, have completely new front hatch and seat..thank goodness.
Perception Search 15, my current and favorite: comfortable as heck, driest ride compared to P15/Tarpon 160, feels fast as the Tarpon 160, excellent glide, comfortable deck layout, water tight hatches, stability somewhere between the other two, and a joy to paddle as it turns well. Harder to find locally, but you are welcome to paddle mine, I live in Sacramento. Really outstanding kayak that has everything I need. Even came with rod holders installed that the photo on STPost did not show. Let me know if you want photos.

Kayaks / Re: Perception Search 15' Review
« on: September 01, 2010, 01:51:06 PM »
Have had no problems getting rods in the front hatch as I use 2 piece kind, not sure about a spear gun. I really like the TIGHT seal on the front hatch as I was practicing some re-entry techniques in preperation for a trip to Van Damme this weekend. This yak combines the speed of the Tarpon 160 and the "almost" stability of the Prowler 15 (my all time favorite of which I should have never sold). Re: Tarpon's..their new hatch system is much better than the previous style that was anything but a good/tight seal. Tried loading some pics, but need to resize first. Hoping to land a fat ling this weekend!

Kayaks / Perception Search 15' Review
« on: August 27, 2010, 10:27:10 AM »
As the owner of a Tarpon 160, I have not been happy with the  the way it pearls in bigger waves. I'm 210 and frequently load it with camping/fishing gear and when the whitecaps start, the 160 really nose dives which makes for a very wet ride due to the bow getting buried in the wave. My last trip I ended up with a good amount of water that came in from the front hatch which is poorly sealed with a rather loose fit (2008 model and changed for 2009 on up).
Anyway, I  paddled a Search 13' and was impressed enough to buy the 15'. This kayak really surprised me as it's as fast as the Tarpon 160, absolutely tracks straight, and with its V bow/hull, is silent without wave slap, no pearling, can be leaned/edged way over and turns much better than the 160. Fit, finish, build quality is excellent...but the negative is that it's OMG heavy! That's probably a reason for the excellent tracking though. It even came with 2 rod holders that was not in the description..cool.  The Search 15' is not that common, but after paddling it for 8 hours on two trips, it's my hands down favorite for speed, dry/comfortable ride, very good deck layout, tight hatches, ease of turning, and silent paddling. Perception did an excellent job on this one. Photos coming soon.
