Got off work yesterday and went to the Gym to find the lap pool full of old ladies doing water aerobics and the other 3 lanes packed 4 deep with the swim one lap and rest 10 minutes crowd.  I can't handle that kinda traffic so went home.  After 5 minutes of watching TV I got bored decided to take a whack at livening up an old fiberglass diveboard a little stylized fire. Disclaimer: Prep consisted solely of a light sand and wipe down, the paint I used is completely wrong for this application but its all I had on hand, this is my second attempt at creating fire with no prior instruction. I just wanted to experiment a little and see what I could pull off =)

The tools: Iwata bottom line sprayer and a template fashioned out of a laundry detergent container.

Laying down the transparent red base.

Pearlized yellow for depth (barely visible in the pics)

Here's where I killed it, the existing gelcoat was a faded yellow which coincidentally matched up identically to the Opaque Yellow I have for detail.  I tried mixing it with reds to orange it out a bit but it turned a peach color....I went ahead with it anyway, this was the result.

Went over it with peariled yellow to darken the yellow up a bit.

I ran out of pearlized yellow so only half the boat got it.  This is the end result of the front end.

Fun stuff, I think I'm gonna give it another go with a darker basecoat and clean up the flame licks, need to work on my form.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker
