Becky and I arrived at the boat launch at 5:15. Brad ( Zilla ) and Mitch showed up at 5:30 as did Joel, John and Mike.
We paddled towards the point at Stateline where Mike and Brad tossed their traps to make bait. While waiting for bait we were all trolling when Mooch was the 1st to hook up. About a 19'' rainbow on a Rapala. Apparently bait was not as abundant as earlier in the week, but they managed enough. I caught my first Tahoe fish, an 18'' mack on a live minnow in 45 feet of water. John and Mike did well too.
Brad was an awesome guide showing us all the ropes. We all went to Steamers afterwards for pizza and beer.
The water could not have cooperated more. Flat with virtually zero wind.
If you want to learn about fishing Tahoe, brad is definitely the man to hook up with. I know I will be doing so in the very near future.
becky and I had to come home today as I have some things i HAVE to fix tomorrow, but the others are all fishing tomorrow. I am sure Mooch will post pics and a report. He better, he has my fish on his camera. :smt002

Can you use minnows in Tahoe?  I thought that was a big no-no?  Look forward to the pics!

You can use minnows but they must be caught in the lake itself. No outsiders.

Sounds like a great time. I look forward to the pictures also. Really bummed that I couldn't make it.

Yep. You just need to get them directly from the lake. No outsiders.
I would have been there today too, but as I was gassing up for the trip I got back in my truck, lifted my butt to get my wallet out which put pressure on the back of the seat, and the seat broke in half!!!
We had to put a giant futon behind it to keep it propped up for the trip there. Todat I get to take off the upholstery and weld the thing together. I guess I am glad it happened now rather than on my way to ELK!!! But it still makes me mad it cost me a day of fishing.

MANY,MANY THANKS to Brad / Zilla .....aka "The Tahoe Yeti" :white....for sharing his intel on Tahoe fishing. It was my first time kayaking Tahoe and my first time catching a Tahoe Native Rainbow and a Mackinaw (caught 1 bow and two macs). Brad was definitely an excellent guide  :smt023 and a totally great / fun guy to hang out with  :party And it seemed EVERYONE IN TAHOE knew him  :smt003 It think it's safe to say that Brad is the "true" Governor of Tahoe :smt002

Thanks also to Mike / Sturgy and John / jdyak for setting me up with a place to stay - very cool cabin  :smt023

Mike / Tote and Becky = always a pleasure hanging out with you guys in and out of the water  :smt045

Will be posting pics this afternoon....

Mooch, How did you guys do on Sunday??
We are headed up again after work on Wednesday to fish Thurs/Fri. Did things improve / get worse??
Gonna rough it in the Horizon Casino. Got a deal of $20 a night for 2 nights. Can't pass on that one.

Hey Mike - On Sunday, Mike and I met up with Brad at the same spot. (John stayed at the cabin - his back was hurting). I managed to catch (and release) one small mac. It was a slow day and the wind picked up as soon as we made our way back - reminded me of Bucks Landing at the Bay  :smt011

On Monday, John and I met Brad (Mike slept in) - same spot - and John snagged one mac with an Iron. Fishing was slow but the weather was perfect. We paddled back and hugged the shoreline - maneuvering our yaks in between HE-UGE boulders - very cool  :smt023 Brad had mentioned that the East Shore has the best scenery. Definitely worth checking out next time  :smt002

pics are on the way :smt001

Guys:

Had a great time fishing with all of you. I don't think the pictures really tell how beautiful the lake is. Brad (zilla) was an excellent host and all around great guy.  Enjoy!  Hope to plan another trip in September.

Mike

Mooch-

Those pix are cool. Too bad I couldn't make the trip up with you guys. I was pretty bummed about it. I'm definitely thinking about hitting it again though. I'm still searching for my Big Mac... He's still out there.

Great pics.  Wish I could have joined you guys.  Where exactly is the Cabin.  A buddy of mine has a cabin in Tahoma.  North of Emerald Bay.
