'Pirates' Tall Ship to Offer Activities at Half Moon Bay Nov. 5-10
The brig Lady Washington, which appeared as HMS Interceptor in the 2003 motion picture Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, has scheduled a visit to Half Moon Bay from Nov. 5 to Nov. 10. The Official Ship of the State of Washington will arrive in the early afternoon of Friday, Nov. 5, fire a cannon salute to the city, and tie up at 1 Johnson Pier, Half Moon Bay. The ship will offer a full schedule of K-12 educational programs, walk-on tours for the public, and three-hour public sails.
Upon its arrival, Lady Washington will open for public walk-on tours from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. The tour schedule for the remainder of its stay is: 11/6-7, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 11/9-10, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Crew in 18th-century costume will welcome visitors. A $3 donation per person is appreciated.
Lady Washington will also host guests for a pair of three-hour Adventure Sail programs on Saturday and Sunday, November 6 and 7. An Adventure Sail is a family-oriented experience featuring maritime storytelling, a sea shanty, and a chance for guests to help sail a real tall ship. Tickets are $55 adults, $45 students/seniors/activity military, and $35 children 12 and under. To purchase tickets, call 800-200-5239, or visit www.historicalseaport.org. Early reservations are strongly recommended.
On the weekdays, Lady Washington will host K-12 students from schools in Davenport, Morgan Hill, Stanford and Watsonville for educational programs. Limited space is still available for these programs. For details, contact Roxie Underwood, 800-200-5239, ext. 102, [email protected].
Launched in 1989, Lady Washington has appeared in several films besides Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. She also starred as HMS Enterprise in the 1994 film Star Trek: Generations. The ship is a replica of one of the first U.S.-flagged vessels to visit the west coast of North America. Lady Washington sails to more than 40 ports a year conducting living history programs, and acting as a tall ship ambassador for the communities of Grays Harbor, Wash., her home port. She was named Washington State’s official ship by the state legislature in 2007.
