I'd appreciate it if Hobie Revo owners can share how you store your pedals for surf launches. Please note I have the turbo fins upgrade.  I've found it rather difficult to get it in and out of the bow hatch.

Thanks in advance.

Well,

Different strategies for different situations...

knee slappers... I leave em in for launch, make sure they tucked up against the hull,

and power out, on the way back, I never mess around, I always strap down on top with a leash,

  ( sounds exotic...  :smt002 )

same would go if the launch was a little large....  :smt003

How and where do you strap them down?

yeah I leash them for a launch and land. small leash from the drive (hole #1) to a small cleat next to the foot well. Not very elegant. I worry more about them getting lost vs being damaged if I roll.

Yep - I've rolled and bent the fin mast (rod), I thought about the setup you mentioned.  I am just concerned with the drive smacking me while I'm rolling.

Somebody on here has a very nice set-up with pictures and they bungee the drive to the top of the bow.  Although now that I think of it, it may be an Adventure but would think it can be transferred.

Not me. Must be somebody else.

I removed the cleat and instead have a brass snap-lock with a quality nylon rope leash to one of the hobie pad-eyes & the #1 hole on the drive. I haven't had to launch or land in anything big yet where I felt I had a good chance of rolling it but when I do I will put the drive into the front hatch. If you roll the yak there's a chance the drive will be ripped free of any way you bungee or strap it down to the bow if.....it gets washed back to a rocky, especially, or sandy shore. If my surfboard can be stripped of a fin I figure that drive lashed to the bow will be a goner.

For the $500 investment, that is the mirage drive, I'll make the effort to stuff it into the hull. jim

I've had the pleasure to wipe out and had the yak turned over a 2 times in the past couple of months.  :smt108

I leash the drive to the bungee that secures the front hatch and use the bungee and hook to secure the pedal portion right in front of the round hatch.

It held up quite well, especially since I bit it hard both times.

Thanks Don.
I put eye pads on the left and right sides just outside of the front hatch.
I use a tank strap with brass clips between the two pads. Just slide the fins under the tank strap.
I also have a bungee leash on the mirage drive. I drilled a small hole in the front of the drive and put a SS shackle through it. There is an eye pad to both the right and left of the sail tiedown. I can use either to clip my mirage leash. This in conjunction with the tank strap has worked well for me..

I left my drive unit in just once while landing in hmb...never again. The fine sand and silt worked their way into all the drive unit mechanics requiring the complete dis-assembly of the unit. It's still in pieces on the workbench awaiting a couple of parts that need updating. We use an OK kayak tank well strap real similar to Tote's.

I've done several beach launches with the drive inside but on the off position and got sand in the drive as well. It did lose smoothness.

What I did was spray the metal moving parts with WD-40 then put the drive inside a big trash can filled with fresh water for 24 hours.  I did this several times and its now pretty smooth again.

Tote - Where did you buy the tank strap?

I made my own. I had all the stuff I needed from making the RoRows.
You can get them through Cobra Kayak.
Part #3050       Tank Straps (Pair)       $37.30
http://www.cobrakayaks.com/pricelist.html

They work really well for a lot of different things.
I use them to keep the hatch VERY secured if I am going to be in shit conditions.
I use them to keep my ice chest secured in the tankwell when it is FULL of ice and beer.
Of course, I use it for SCUBA tanks.
They hold just about anything in place.
They really have a lot of different applications so they are very handy to have around if you are ever in a pinch.
