Went to the Hollow for some poke poling with Heather and Lee (Heather deck hands for the Queen of Hearts). Heather pulls 2 nice fat monkey face eels. One was HE-UGE!!! I pull one and a few baby cabezon - not sure if they are even cabby's....hoping the fish experts can chime in and identify 'em.

WTG Mooch. Those are nasty looking little critters. I have eaten them once a long time ago. I dont even remember what it tasted like. You are really getting out there before you split. Right on! Nice photos too.

It was wierd being at the Hollow without a kayak...it just didn't seem right. BUT sure it beats being stuck indoors :smt002

I tried to get to the ocean yesterday and couldn't make it - way to get out for the afternoon tide.  Great pics.  Love the black ab shell.  Those are cabs.   :smt001

Great ocean outing!  You're going to miss BH when you relocate to Alaska (yeah right)  :smt003  Thanks for the post and lots of interesting pictures Mooch.  Can't wait til RF season open again...

Well, I was planning on cooking up the eels with Mooch at home, but something came up. So, took a couple fillets to Sushi Monster and they were kind enough to tempera style them for me to try. The meat(precooked) itself look and felt a lot like Cabezone (tinted blue-ish green and slightly tough). Cooked up tempura style, they tasted like similar to cabies,  just a little firmer and definitely a lot sweeter. If anybody is interested in trying this fishing, I made my Poke Pole following the directions from an earlier post(don't remember exactly, but it's here). I also don't remember who posted it, but thank you. You PVC pole instructions were great($7.83) and I had a wonderful time on the coast today and had an even better meal! We are so lucky we live near the coast! Hope you all get the time to breath in some ocean air soon!
