This weekend I was demoing a new kayak and wanted to take my fish finder. Beings that it was not my boat I had to get resourceful. I put the transducer in a piece of pool noodle cut out to the approx shape of the transducer. Put that in a Ziplok bag, added a bit of water and placed it in the front hatch. I clamped the fish finder (ram mount clamp) to the front hatch hook. Worked like a charm.

Necessity is the mother of all inventions.  Great thinking about transducer in a ziplok bad!  Guess what I'm going to do when I got my replacement FF?  Hope I don't get into trouble with patent infringement  :smt003 Congrat on you catches at Mendo lake...

When Allen and I talked about his portable transducer mount, we started brainstorming about other ways to improve on his design.

Below is a pic of one idea we came up with.  I tested it last Friday during that epic WSB/Striper bite at Linda Mar.  It worked flawlessly.

I gave the whole unit to Fishunter to take to Rancho Leonero to try on their rental yaks.

I get that the transducer is sitting in water inside the bag, but there is an air gap between the bag and the hull, I guess there was enough contact of the water filled bag to allow it to work. Glad it worked out.

The coolest part about all of this is that the whole thing is transferable from yak to yak without the need for modification or glue.

I like it!
I've got the piranamax215 portable, but I've been thinking of some way to get the transducer off the side (its a suction cup mount) since it snags a lot of eelgrass & kelp while I paddle. I was thinking of doing just this thing the other day.
Nice work guys!
