So I've finally gotten my Tarpon mostly rigged. I hate reaching past my toes to do stuff.  This has nothing to with age (I'm Y2K compliant) or being out of shape (round is a shape)  :smt012    ...just creature comfort.  :smt001

So here are the pics of my solution, as well as how I mounted my Ram tubes and battery, and a dry box I haven't seen anyone else using (Cabellas).

What you're seeing is a PanaVice mount I salvaged from my truck (almost cheap on eBay) attached to a Ram Revolution rod holder, with cutting board pieces to make the transition.

Fishfarmer,

I have a hobie w/ r.a.m tube mounted up front and find it inconvenient scooching and reaching up front so I think I know what you mean.  I think I'm going to try the revolution holder as well, but probably just mounted on the gunwale to replace the current tube holder.  How do you like the r.a.m tubes in the "gunslinger?" locations?  I was wondering if they interfere with paddling

BTW That's a sleek looking setup you have.  Reminds me of a an xwing fighter from star wars or something.

Don't know yet... I was thinking I might try trolling Melones or Don Pedro to see how they work.

I had actually mocked this up using some hd suction cups and Cabellas QuickDraw holders on extensions. Paddling around in our pond I was able to set them out of the way ok. But the QuickDraws weren't ideal in the way you release the rod from the holder when they're behind you, so I returned them. The Ram Tubes *should* be more natural as they will be angled forward, and I'll be reaching behind and pulling forward. But who knows until you experience the real world?

They will be i the way for paddling and a larger fish just may smack it into left field. Not a good place to mount IMO. While having the FF mounted in the mast hole is a reach to adjust I only mess w/ it every 40 min to an hour. No bigs. It's nice to have out of the way.

Paddled for six+ hours yesterday. I put my spare there when I wasn't actually trolling. Only nicked my pole twice when my swing got a little out of control  :smt002

Do you mean the ram mount doesn't hold?

If we're talking about the same thing (center front?), that's where I intended to put a compass. My FF is also my GPS, so I enjoy it closer, but to each their own.

Being attached to the RAM mount makes it easy to push it back past your toes if you like.

A lot of these things are preference items as far as I can tell. The tolerances on the rear ram mounts *are* tight. When I looked back as I paddled there was only 2-3 inches to spare... on the other hand, the revolution model is so adjustable I think I could probably double that pretty easily. Other things could be a factor also, I suppose. I'm only 5'11'. Taller might make this a problem, or a swing that is higher and/or at a different angle than mine. So your mileage may vary.
