I'm planning a fishing trip to Clear Lake for early October and would like some input as to good areas to tent camp and fish from my kayak. I don't mind a 3-5 mile paddle and thinking about trolling while heading for a destination if that's doable. Camping and keeping my kayak close by the tent would be great and have a kayak cart to haul it.

Thanks in advance!

Once on a road trip My wife and I went through Clear Lake.
We couldn't find a spot to camp so we stopped a local cop we stopped him for directions and as funny as it reads he said
"There is no safe place to camp and stay away from the Indians casino"...
We did find a safe place a chalked him up to having a bad day. The fishing was not so hot when we were there although I hear it's the best for bass. If you like to check out Lake Sonoma it fantastic for fishing and the boat in lake side camping is unbeatable for the bay area. Oh and the views are way nicer than Clear Lake. The drive is not to far from Clear Lake one hour south maybe.
Sorry no current suggestions where to go on Clear Lake but it's not that big. I hear the deep pools are the place to be for Sept.

State park I think is the only real camp area for tents. Never stayed there, but a friend used to all the time. There may be more, but, State park is the only one I've heard talk about.  Konockti(?) may be another area?
I have seen tent camping near the entrance to the Keys, but those sites are mixed with trailers.  It was very noisy(Parties) when we boated by one night to night fish the keys.

the state park is a great place to camp and it has fantastic access to great fishing. If you hang a right you can easily paddle into soda bay, fish its springs and rock walls, then enjoy two of the clear lady's finest restaurants right on the water. both have patio dining and are kayak friendly.
If you hang the left you have access to kelsey creek and the fantastic fishing between the state park and the county park plus the option of paddling further north to fish the docks and structure of corinthian bay.  Ill post some pictures of that stretch
M&M is on the other end of the BIG bass pond. Ive never stayed there but I know the float tube gang uses it from time to time. Has the rep of being a louder and later crowd.
Please feel free to PM and I can help with details, a recent report, and hopefully help put you on some fish.

C-lake is the largest natural lake completely in california borders. 113 miles of shoreline and 19 miles across at her furthest points. It is the oldest lake in north america and I believe one of the most beautiful. I have been blessed to touch alot of different waters and it is "clear" to me that this is a very special place. And then there are the bass  :spiderman:

Hydro, a BIG THANKS for posting those pictures...can't wait to go! Any suggestions as to some "insider" tips on some crank baits to use? I like rubber worms, Mepps, etc. Suggestions most welcome. Thanks again.

Hydrospider,
Nice tribute to Clear Lake. I camped in the state park in the spring this year and it is a beautiful camp ground with access to the water right on your camp site. Plus the hot shower isn't too shabby either. I will return soon enough. Great place!

I've camped at the State Park and can vouch for the good camping and fishing access.  I've considered what to do if the State Park campground is full, though . .and that is to camp in the Mendocino Natl Forest between Upper Lake and Lake Pillsbury or Potter Valley... .about 30-40 minutes or so from the north shore of Clear Lake.  I haven't tried that out yet but my research indicates do-ability.
Fishing is cool

The State Park is the place to camp for sure.  Lake Mendocino is also not too far away.  A launch close to great fishing is Rodman Slough at the northwest corner of the lake.  The county park is also good and there is even a launch in downtown Lakeport.  Fishing in Clear lake is world-class but consult DF&G for eating guidelines.  Be aware that Clear Lake is very shallow and wind sometimes creates amazingly high surf.  Good luck!
