Butt > Rockfish Report

Despite his rockstar status and cult following Mooch decided to join the Lowly Landscaper Crew (LLC, we're all Business) for a pre-cinco de mayo fish assault.  For those of you who don't know, Mexico is the only country on Earth to actually celebrate a great military conquest over the French.  Thats how we roll.

Abking likes to see the whole trip so I'll start off with the "good morning" kick in the nads. (Didn't even get me to Full  )


Angel told me to be at his house by 8:15....this was the scene at 8:10.


So I'm a few minutes late...bout 40 to be exact.  I figured he'd be cool with it, little things like this are trivial when you're livin phat on...


We loaded up the yaks and hit the freeway.  Rolled into OP just as Joel was paddling away, we tried to hail him on the radio but he was ignoring us. We showed him...parking lot shenanigans!  Booby trapped his rig. (how you like them apples?  bet you haven't even realized it yet  )



Water was nice.



Angel paddles up on Joel and they strike up conversation.

Angel: Whats up mooch, how's the fishing?
Joel: No action yet...holy sh*t...did you bring Art?
Angel: Yes
Mooch: OMG!!!! he's a personal hero of mine, I've always looked up to him.  Maybe he can give me a few pointers today.


Joel: Am I doing this right Art?


I stuck a little guy trolling and had to borrow a net from Angel (I had my mesh dive bag for legality but wasn't trying to land a butt in it.) After I effortlessly make the swoop and lock it in the bag I haul it over the rail.  Taped out just under 25". I didn't have a stringer either had to borrow that from Angel too.  He then proceeds to say how sad it is that both the net and stringer have never been used before...I had to break them in for him.  Bloody net, he wasn't gonna do it so I had to step up and take care of it for him.


Wind picked up and Joel split. Me and Angel stayed out for a little while longer then paddled back to the yak ramp west of the Pier....Joel took the short route and paddled to the boat launch then drove over to pick up his boat.  You know how them Ocean Kayaks are...not the best paddling rig 
I ended the day with one for dinner.





Joel mentioned that he might not be in the Bay Area much longer.  I guess someone from NCKA offered him a place to stay up north in Mendo and he's giving it some serious consideration.  We'll miss ya if you go big guy.

Nice report Art.  I always enjoy reading your posts.  What a team player you are - stepping up and devirginizing Angel's net and stringer.

What is this Mooch?  Say it ain't so!!    Hey, if you move, that is the place to go.  Can't say I blame you.

I love how your reports have evolved, Art.  The attitude and camaraderie almost overshadow the halbut you caught!  Way to go on catching a halibut!  Great report.

Nice report and Hali but to be true to the Abking genre, you have to shoot videos, swear at the fish and give a cooking demo.
