i gotta say crabbing at HMB seems spotty this year, but the crabs seem to be coming back. There still seems to be a lot of red rock crab even father out than usual. I think Anglers need to find the clean patch of sand and keep testing until the Dungees come up then leave for longer soaks.

I know the conventional wisdom to crabbing is "Leave for long soaks" = produce more crab. This is true with a caveat.
Crab move in clutches. If a person leaves their pots over red rock crab land for 3 hours, they will get large rock crabs!!! This is the worst feeling ever --like i want to rip off their arms (which I don't), and send them back as a warning to other red crabs!

I test my areas first with 10-15 minute soaks before committing long term. If i get a keeper crab it is worth leaving the pots there. His buddies are probably around to fill up your pots. Just a thought -- Keith
