I just recieved an email from Helen, their customer service rep and they are sending me a gasket free of charge and will be updating the listing to be more clear to future customers.

I'm blown away by the customer service and the offer I received. I never expected them to just give me the product free of charge. I'll definitely keep spending my money with them.
Glad to hear that.  Iíve always positive experiences with Austin Kayak.

Good job getting it straightened out to your satisfaction.  Glad to hear ACK stepped up to the plate.  Darned nice Christmas present now.

Iím not defending Hobie but they do what many other companies do:  they bone the crap out of you on spare parts.  I guess when it comes to spare parts there is little need for competitive pricing - youíre kind of stuck if you own a Hobie and you need something that an after market vendor canít supply.  I think all mfgís particularly those with strong brands like Hobie price their parts this way.  Iím just glad we donít have to pay for a kayak what it would cost it to build it from the spare parts catalog.

Not yet. I have the flu so I'm sulking on the couch watching football all weekend and my wife has to let me because I'm sick.  :smt044

I'm nervous about it too. But this video makes it seem much easier than expected. Just make sure you trace from the INSIDE of the hatch for your cuts.

Please don't follow these instructions exactly.  Like most rectangular hatch videos on YouTube, this one tells you to cut out all four semi-circular indents.  You only need to cut out two of them...these cutouts are for the locking mechanism.  The lock is only on the side furthest from the hinge.  Its those two indents you need to cut out and those two only.
